How to get into SP: ignore your body's impulses (like itches) and think of nothing in particular. Just let your thoughts go by without paying too much attention to them or focusing on any particular thought. This can be quite hard at first.
You know you're in SP when your body doesn't move when you want it to, this is often accompanied by images, sounds and sensations that aren't actually there. These are called Hypnogogic Hallucinations, and are perfectly normal. ..and sometimes can be very disturbing or frightening, I should warn you. They're not real and usually don't last longer than a few seconds, though, so I wouldn't worry about them too much. (I'm talking myself into it as well, as they TERRIFY me. I've experienced them and they weren't all that bad, just colours and shapes. ..yet I'm scared. I'm a coward, lol)
Sorry to invade your thread, Howlgram. MissLucy, Not focusing on any thoughts and letting them go by.. where is the awareness in that? (This is a sincere question and not criticism :))
Thanks!
You'll know you're in SP when you feel strong vibrational rushes going through your body in waves. Other possible signs: loud noises, intense hallucinations, and altered states of consciousness.
Just giggle at the ghostie! ^^
imo those hallucinations seem totally cool :P
What about focusing like on your respiration, like just listening to it, i find this the best way to not think about anything :P
Also, what i am afraid is that i get into paralisys, so i say like "hey, lets see if i can move my leg", and i end breaking the paralisys, lol
Im not sure if i was going into SP, but i felt that my leg started to shake, like if it was going through an earthquacke or somethings xD
then i got excited and a big smile was painted over my face, until i was totally awaken again xD though im not sure if it was really SP
now worries, better if you get answered, + info for everyone, yay! ^^
The awareness, for me, is in knowing you're letting them pass you by. It's like watching the rain, I don't actually look at each raindrop, I just become aware of the fact that I'm watching the rain fall, and that brings up emotions (or not), of which I can then become aware without focusing on them etc etc, and so I transition into a dream.
I can't really explain it any other way. When you're looking at a sunset, you're not thinking "the Earth is turning away from the sun", even though you know that's what a sunset is. You just become aware of the colours and the emotions they call forth. ..or is that just me XD
Not SP, sorry.
Also, read mzzkc's WILD guides. Getting to SP is not the primary goal of a WILD. The primary goal is falling asleep. SP is just something that sometimes happens along the way; it's a way of knowing you're doing it correctly, but not an important step in and of itself.

Well, sp is important for me since it is the first step, which i havent even accomplished
besides, the rest sounds easy, even if it is not.
Sleep Paralysis is the function that protects your body from moving and such when in the subconscious of sleep. Sleep Paralysis basically feels like complete paralyzation and you have no capabilities of moving. You can exit it by attempting and trying to move smaller muscles and such. You know when you enter it when you can't move your body parts. In order to enter it your body must be fully relaxed and you have to tune into your inner conscious. Do relaxation exercises in order to relax your body with this. Try and focus on your breaths and relax all your muscles. A good way to do this is by flexing all your muscle groups and do it until they're tired. Then stop and let them relax without moving them. Remember if you move any muscle groups you have the risk of having to restart the whole paralysis process. You have to have patience and wait.
thank you :)
This is not applicable to the typical SP experienced during WILD.
What he is describing is REM atonia, which is not the same as the experiences housed under the working, LDing community definition of sleep paralysis.
Check this out if you want to read a short, decent reference on exactly what you can expect from a WILD attempt.
Seriously, though, there's no feeling quite like it. To me, I imagine being cast in concrete is the closest to describing how it feels.. you can still feel all your muscles, but you can't move them, as if someone or something is holding them in place no matter what you do.
When you try to fall asleep, make your wild attempt and relax your muscles to the point when you dont feel your body and when REM kicks in, your dream body gets generated. Unfortunately you gave it the instructions to be motionless in bed in dark room. Your focus turns into the dream world, which gets shaped according to strongest thought before you fall into sleep. And the thought is: dont move, just dont move.
And your dream body literally cannot move, not realising it is within a dream, as it so closely resembles reality. Dreamer while concentrating while falling asleep constructed his own version of dream bedroom, not knowing he is doing it. Instead of going on with crazy fantasies, he diligently gave one clear command. Dont move a muscle. Instead of allowing free associacions to create rich dream world, he created his bedroom.
In my opinion this is completely unnecessary, as the dreamer has to only remain aware while falling asleep. It does not mean to consciously relax to the point one does not feel his body, it does not mean to wait till the body gets numb, it does not mean to clean his mind. It means to let construction of dream world simply happen naturally or in a guided way. You dont have to experience sleep paralysis on your way to dreamworld. On contrary. Your body becomes paralyzed, when you shift your attention away from it. Not the other way round. You Should not wait, till your body is paralyzed and then you shift away from it. You should shift your awareness away and then, spontaneously when no longer needed, your body shuts down without you knowing it, because you will be in dream world. At that time you wont even care. ;)
Why induce something, what happens spontaneously?
