      WILD Trouble...

Okay, so I have been reality checking about every hour for about 2 weeks now. I keep a dream journal also and have about 15 entries. I've had 2 lucid dreams the past 2 weeks since I started, but they were DILDs.

Three nights ago, I began the WILD technique. Most people reccommend waking after 5-6 hours, which I have tried, but I usually try the WILD before I go to bed AND after 5-6 hours. The past 3 night experiences are as follows:

Night #1) I laid down, waited for my body to enter sleep paralysis, and started seeing hypnotic images (except the patterns only lasted in about a minute increments). After laying there for an hour without results, I gave up and went to sleep.

Night #2) Basically same as night 2 but I had this INCREDIBLE urge to move and itches began all over my body after my body fell asleep. I tried my best not to focus on this, waiting for it to pass but it didnt. After about 20 minutes after the urges started, I gave up.

Night #3) I laid down til my body fell into SP. After about 30 minutes, my body felt completely asleep and at this point, it is much easier to control my thoughts, keep focus when needed, and keep consciousness. After my body going to sleep, I started to let my mind's thoughts take over to get illogical thoughts and then observe them. I have tried everything to get realistic images but I just cant seem to do it. After another 30 minutes, my body went even more numb, from what I thought SP was to true SP. I felt I could still move if I really really wanted to, but everything was definately completely numb (like when you get a numb shot from the dentist kinda numb). The next thing that happened was my eyelids began to twitch/slightly flicker. To end it, my foot began to cramp up making my entire body awaken, ruining the WILD experience.

      SO HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
      1) How can I get more vivid hypnotic images?
      2) What am I supposed to do when I have images? They say once you have clear hypnotic images, you observe them and "enter the dream"?
      3) And most important, HOW DO I ENTER THE DREAM???
      4) What do the eyelid twitches mean? Was I officially in REM sleep?

THANK YOU SO MUCH to anyone who took the time to read my experiences and answer my questions!!

      Hi,
      1) It appears to vary with people, getting HH probably shouldn't be your aim, only a few methods use HH to increase the rate of transition there are plenty of other methods to do a WILD.
      2) Think of it as a gradient Wake > Dream, the closer you get to dream the more stable and the more vivid, just chillout and let it happen.
      3) ^
      4) Eye twitches are something I get too, I find attempts on my side make me both not feel SP at the same time of getting rid of those annoying body... things.

Other notes, you catch me as the kind of person which the catching technique would work well with, doesn't work the first few times but if you learn to catch yourself just before you drift off, then it can give you a good method to have a WILD.

      *hypnagogic, not hypnotic.

The way to increase the duration and intensity of the experience is to simply continue to relax. Your relaxation is what drives it forward. Eventually, the imagery will start to appear highly 3-dimensional. As well, your body will either be paralyzed or close to it. At this point, you can enter the dream by simply walking forward. Since your body is paralyzed, that walk signal will cause your "dream body" to move, at which point the dream will wrap around you. This process can fail at any point, mind you.

Also, don't bother WILDing at the beginning of the night. Physiologically, it's a losing battle. Some people say "anything is possible", but you really can't alter your circadian rhythm.

You can WILD without having hypnagogic images. When I want to WILD, I wake up after about six hours of sleep and leave my bed for less than five minutes. I have found out that if I try to WILD immediately after waking up (with an alarm) I just get too frustrated and uncomfortable. When I return to bed, I relax while I listen to sounds from outside my window. Within 15 minutes I get a tingling sensation all over my body, which is sleep paralysis. The transition into a lucid dream doesn’t take more than 5-10 seconds. When the tingling stops, I’m in a lucid dream where I just have to walk out of my bed and do whatever I want!

There’s another technique that you may be interested in, and it’s called VILD (Visually Incubated Lucid Dream). In this method, you imagine that you’re in a dream. Your visualization will eventually transform into a real dream.

Flickering eyelids don’t mean that you were in REM. Also, your foot shouldn’t be moving if you’re in SP. Those kinds of twitches happen in earlier stages of sleep. Are you sure you were in SP, and not just numb for lying still for a long time? SP is usually very noticeable. When you reach it, it won’t be long until you end up in the dream state!
