      Violent HH

      Hey guys,
I have been trying to lucid dream for about 4 months now, and have been trying to WILD for about 3 and a half months. While learning to WILD, I got to SP a few times, but never got into a lucid dream because of the HH. The basic pattern would be my thoughts shifting from one to the other freely, then seeing a face with no expression staring into me, then I would start hearing screams, feeling my body trembling, suffocating under a heavy pressure on my chest, seeing flashes of light ripping through my eyelids and having difficulty breathing. Can someone explain how I am supposed to get past these HH? I have tried breathing normally and relaxing, but it seems that every time I do so, the SP passes and I just wake up. I then do a RC do confirm I am awake. If someone can tell me if those HH have any meaning whatsoever, I'd also be glad to hear about that.

You're part of the group of people who experience horrifying hallucinations when you enter SP. There's nothing any of us can do to really help, it's all up to you. What I can say is this, remember that nothing you see, hear, or feel is true; just relax and realize that soon a wonderful dream will unfold around you.

Alright but isn't there a way to decrease the occurrence or severity of these violent HHs? I get them too (not as bad as OP) but it's still terrible.

I've experienced much worse hallucinations than those; what you've experienced actually isn't too uncommon.

HH isn't really affected by "day residue" or what we're thinking about, even more so by expectations. So you can't really control it like the contents of a dream; because of this, the best thing to do is just to ignore it. You're supposed to take all attention off your physical body, anyways. However, if you're imaginative, you can try using the HH to your advantage by visualizing a dream scene around you based on the current HH. If you're having difficulty breathing, imagine you just ran a race and are catching your breath. Remember to imagine sounds, scenes and tactile sensations!
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Is this pretty consistent for you? I have had some horrible hallucinations, but every WILD attempt is different. Sometimes nothing happens, sometimes I get torn apart by violent body distortions. Always expect the next attempt to be pleasurable and peaceful. Don't let it become a pattern.

As Puffin explained, try to take attention away from your body. By the time you transition to the dream, you should already have forgotten about your real body, and have all your attention on a dream body. You could also try switching positions. Hallucinations tend to be worse for me when I am on my back. For some reason, if I roll to my side, the transition becomes much easier.

I have another question. If I'm already at the stage of the HHs, is it certain I will WILD if I continue and not wake myself up? Because sometimes they are very long (couple of minutes) and I just give up at some point and force myself to wake up.

If you just keep calm the transition will start, just avoid giving too much attention to HHs.
