Help with my mind while using WILD technique

      Hello,

So my problem is my mind drifts rather easily while I am trying to do the WILD technique for lucid dreaming am I supposed to cease all thoughts where there are no words in my head at all i have tried and it is very hard to maintain sometimes I will zone off on my breathing by counting 1 - 10 like this =Breaths in= (no inner thoughts while doing so) then breathing out and saying "one" in my head stretched along the length of the out breath.

I am just unsure like am i supposed to not think at all for a WILD to work?

      Thanks

Counting is one good way, but the mind still wants to wander after a while, doesn't it?

I like to start off by doing some Chakra meditation first, which is good for relaxation and keeps the mind occupied with visualizations for a good 15 minutes or so. After that my body is deeply relaxed and it's very easy to lie perfectly still (especially if you combine chakra work with deep steady breathing). Then I think about my dream signs or repeat a mantra or count as I wait for sleep to overtake my body.

So will having thoughts like talking in my head make it more difficult, like say I just lay there still and just keep counting in my head 1..2...3...and on and on will this make it more difficult for the body to fall asleep?

I had achieved a state where my mind would wander and everything will get really heavy and a kind of rushing feeling over my body but then i would snap out of that wander and start to focus again on my breathes and it would go back to normal....

It sounds like you're basically doing it right - WILD is a difficult technique and even accomplished LDers can have a hard time making it work. Counting is good.. anything that can shut off the inner dialogue. Talking in your head is not good... it's distraction. That's why many people practice meditation techniques, to learn how to focus the mind and shut off that inner dialogue (the enemy). I just mentioned the Chakra meditation as my method of choice.

Are you using relaxation techniques to get your body really deeply relaxed? It makes a huge difference. Simply by taking a few deep breaths all the way in and all the way out, nice and slow, I find it relaxes my body immensely. But I do this while also concentrating on Chakra meditation, which keeps the mind occupied and isn't as mind-numbing as just counting - it puts your awareness inside your body but not so much the physical body as the dream body if you know what I mean.

"So will having thoughts like talking in my head make it more difficult, like say I just lay there still and just keep counting in my head 1..2...3...and on and on will this make it more difficult for the body to fall asleep?"

No, counting is good, it doesn't keep your body awake, it's meant to keep your mind awake, but the repetitiveness of it can get really monotonous.

"I had achieved a state where my mind would wander and everything will get really heavy and a kind of rushing feeling over my body but then i would snap out of that wander and start to focus again on my breathes and it would go back to normal...."

Yeah, that's the point where that happens most often. Just keep at it. Eventually, probably some night when you're really super-sleepy or physically exhausted you'll make it through that. The first few times people reach that point (sounds like you were right on the point of SP) excitement usually breaks the spell. But when you've experienced it a few more times and know what it feels like you won't get so excited about it, and you'll be able to transition.
