      Some questions about WILD..

Do I need to be in a completely dead silent room?
Do I need to be an a completely pitch black room?
Does smoking cigarettes affect lucid dreaming?
What should I be doing when I think I have reached SP?
Why do I feel an uncomfortable feeling in my eyes? like sometimes as i am resting and focusing i feel as though my eye is twitching or the eyelids feel weird its hard to explain.

My room is in the basement so these needs could be fulfilled, sorry for all the questions these questions just arent answered in the guides.

      Thanks for the help

"Do I need to be in a completely dead silent room?"

As close as possible. Though some kinds of sounds actually can help you sleep, like a fan for instance.

"Do I need to be an a completely pitch black room?"

Again, as close as possible. Kinda goes without saying... the idea is to get to sleep, so any distractions that would make that difficult are not good.

"Does smoking cigarettes affect lucid dreaming?"

Yes it does. I'm not too sure on the science of it, but I know for instance nicotine patches are sometimes used as lucid dreaming aids. If I recall, I think it's supposed to help increase vividness? It works by stimulating what are called 'nicotinic receptors' in the brain. However, if you habitually use nicotine (as in smoking regularly) these receptors develop a tolerance to nicotine and the effect is not only lost but it can have a negative effect... in other words, I think habitual smokers probably have less vivid dreams than non-smokers. Yet another reason to quit, no? Probably if you quit or cut way back and just smoke occasionally (after 'drying out' thoroughly to let your nicotinic receptors return to normal) a cigarette now and then might actually help with vividness.

I'll let other people answer the rest - I mainly wanted to address the smoking question. Oh, and by all means, if I screwed it up in some way and anybpdy knows better, please elaborate! I don't smoke so I haven't really paid much attention to the whole nicotine issue. Just remember reading about it.

I have a fan in my room, and it doesn't affect me. So it doesn't need to be dead silent. Pitch black does help, but if you can sleep with some light, than you can WILD with it. I smoke and it doesn't affecting my LDing at all. It also depends when your smoking. If you have a stog during a wbtb, then it might cause your dreams to be either more vivid, or lead to lucid because many people use nicotine patches for LD aids like darkmatters stated.

Doh! Sniped by NrElax. Ok then, take it from a smoker!! Orrr...... could it just be that he's in denial? (kidding!)

Actually there are many people here who know a LOT more than I do!! I've only had 7 LDs so far, so if somebody with a high LD count answers, then pay attention to what they say!! Or somebody with a bright green name... they're the Dream Guides, and they know what they're talking about. Me. I've done a lot of reading about it and just had a few lucids, though I have been writing down my dreams for a long time (many years) and that alone teaches you a lot about dreams in general and how they work.

      Anyway, and best of luck!!

There's one thing that darkmatters said that isn't true for me, and that's that habitual smokers have less vivid dreams. I've always had pretty vivid dreams and even though I smoke daily, it hasn't affected my vividness at all. Now this could only be me, but it could affect others differently. And im no pro either, so someone with greater experience is always more helpful.

Ok, cool. Like I said, I was just going off what I read, and I wasn't entirely sure I remember it right. So I'm glad you posted about it.

Yea pretty much everything u stated was true, so good job. You probably know as much about lucid dreaming as I do lol. I just smoke, so I knew little bit from personal experience. I may have a few more lucids, but I dont think that matters. I need to quit smoking though. Did you know it takes a year for your lungs to fully recover, so that you can run again and allow your lungs to fully expand? I dont even wanna known how much tar is in ny lungs and how black they are. I started full on smoking everyday about a year ago. Before that, I still smoked a lot, but not everyday. I would go days without smoking, and I think that is the most stupid thing. If your gonna smoke, either smoke everyday, or dont smoke at all. Its dumb to just smoke like twice a week because you can easily go without smoking and you can still get lung cancer. And for what, smoking a couple stogs a week? Fucking retarded. Have you seen that new commercial about not saying retard. When I say retard, I dont actually refer to someone having down syndrome. Instead, im just saying either im acting stupid or the person im calling it is acting stupid. I pretty much have my own definition for it. Sorry, I just totally went off topic lol.

Lol. I don't see why they take the word retard so seriously because they don't call someone with down syndrome a retard and the majority of people who use the word are referring to an act of stupidity, I seen that commercial like once a long time ago.

Hey saying gay is mean towards gay people man. Lol. Alright, we're getting really off topic here. I guess that's my fault though hahah.

Lol. I'm pretty sure that there was a commercial about using the word "gay" is offensive to when again people use it in a term saying something is stupid or uninteresting :p
