      Music and WILDs

So, after not trying to WILD in almost a year, I randomly attempted one in the middle of the day. I know, poor timing, especially when I haven't gotten past SP yet, but what's to lose.

I tried WILDing without anything, but there were people in my house moving around, cleaning, etc. It was bothersome, so I put in my headphones and played some Explosions in the Sky (it's instrumental, mostly ambient music).

I made much better progress this way, and got to a point where I couldn't feel my limbs and my head felt like it was inflating from the inside or something. I also felt like I was rolling over. I've heard so much about hallucinations that I was kind of scared, but if this is what I feel during SP, it's actually kind of enjoyable. I think I've broken down my "scared of sleep paralysis" phase. I think this was sleep paralysis, but I just kind of lost my grip on it and went back to numbness.

My question comes with the music. When I was in a state of numbness, I could hear my music loud and clear. When I started going into SP, however, the music significantly softened and felt suppressed. Eventually, I heard it but it was distant. Then I lost the feeling. I tried to "will" myself into a dream by repeating phrases etc in my head but that didn't work.

Do you think the music is preventing me from making the jump from SP into a dream?

I think that depends on your ability to sleep while listening to music. Would you normally be able to fall asleep while listening to it? Dont take my words for truth though, as i am not very experienced in this area.

If you were not hearing the music towards the end, I doubt it was hindering your WILD. You were doing everything right. All your exterior senses are supposed to disappear, like that, with your attention turning inward. Naps are awesome for WILD. Keep trying this until you succeed.

Kudos for Explosions in The Sky, but yeah as the last poster said it seems like it didn't hinder you at all, if your hearing went off then that kinda proves it. You may have snapped out due to being too conscious of the process or perhaps you were worried your music would affect the process and that led to you snapping out of SP.

      Thanks to all of you!

I think the reason I woke up is that I was afraid. I have had bad experiences with accidental/natural SP, so I am wary going into it. But I'll keep telling myself its not real. Each time I go further, the less afraid I am.
