At this very moment, I'm sitting on my bed, typing this on my iPad to the more experienced WILDers. I seem to be in a very relaxed mood, with my current bedroom mostly cleaned out so I can get wood flooring installed later on. The window blinds are opened, with the sunlight not directly pouring in but being reflected in by the outside trees, streets, and objects. A nice, cool breeze is also blowing in and at the trees. I've got my iHome system playing a village song from Legend of Zelda OoT.
Wow that just brought up a great image in my head, now I feel really relaxed too.
As I'm relaxed here, my mind's eye is easier to focus on right now. It's not dreaming exactly, though it almost seems like it, it's more like I'm able to visualize and feel/hear the dreamscape, though I'm awake physically and receiving sensory input almost like normal.
Really, first of all, I gotta ask if there's a "name" for this state of a flowing mind. It feels like how I always imagined the logical left hemisphere of the brain is toned down and creativity is going on, along with the dreamscape playing whenever I focus on it without putting my body to sleep... What is this stateof mind?
It sounds like you are in sleep stage 1, or hovering around it. This is when Alpha waves are released in your brain, and it forms a state of relaxed wakefulness. There is a type of mediation called Alpha meditation which involves sustaining this half-asleep state of mind. If you focus on the HI, you can enter the dream that way, if you can remain conscious. The Zelda music can act as a consciousness anchor for you in this case.
More topic based, my main question was and is... If I can anchor this memory of right now and recall it in bed later, could I use it somehow at night or whenever attempting a WILD to calm and bring myself into the dreamscape carefully enough to make it a lucid dream?
Yes, that's a great idea. The key to a successful WILD is having passive relaxation. Visualization helps when trying to do a VILD, or before attempting to WILD. Imagining entering the dreamscape right before doing a WILD will make it more likely to happen.
I did something similar by accident a long time ago but didn't become lucid; I was laying in bed from a day of playing Super Mario Galaxy, and one of the boss battles was playing in my head automatically, maybe because of the music I kinda liked. During this, a lapse of what I guess was awareness turning off occured, along with strong, unexplained hypnagogic imagery, and the next think I (unknowingly) experienced was a dream emulating the boss battle, with little dream haze perhaps from the awareness loss. But it was happening, and I can only describe it as what I guess is going on in the head when a game is being played, where I was trying to beat the boss but continuously missing with the projectiles. After an unsure amount of time, the dream started to fade out or change, not sure which, and I can't remember much else after the switch.
So uh, before I ramble more, are there any good notes or tips to this "method"?
