      Anchors Aweigh

Let's talk about various anchors and techniques for WILD. I've heard about the pain anchor and I'm just not convinced this is necessary, although perhaps it works, I don't know. I know of audio anchors, as far as having a loud or semi-loud fan going in the background or some such, maybe some kind of cellphone or computer alarm.

What other anchors are there, or variations of them? What do you use? If you're talking about a specific position (whether it be of your hands or feet) be specific.

I have heard about having an almond in your mouth while you sleep, but I have never tried it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you don't like the dull pain anchor then there's hundreds of other ones you could try; It's about finding one that works for you. Some people may find pain necessary in order to remain conscious. Other's might use white noise, or some kind of physical sensation such as taping 2 fingers together.

The number of different anchors is endless. Just figure out what kind you want, auditory, physical sensation, scent, etc. From there, think about what would work best for you. It's a really personal matter, reading about what other people do won't help much. It sounds like you already know of the most common anchor types, and if those don't work for you, then create a custom one.

Well I'm really looking for ideas for custom anchors. I haven't been able to do the pain one without having my arm or hand fall asleep. I tried taping a thumb tack on the upper part of my hand but I either didn't feel pain or it hurt too much =/

Oh my...a thumb tack ! Never heard of anyone doing that for an anchor. Most of the pain anchor guys sleep on a marble or other small object. Its more of a dull pressure than actual pain. I also wouldn't recommend sleeping with an almond in your mouth. Sounds like that could be dangerous (choking). I use a visual anchor. I simply observe the darkness. Taping two fingers together is a good one Raph. I like that.
