      Any Free Video Converter Software?

I'm looking for free video converter software that can turn .mkv video files to .wmv files. I have tried several different programs with no luck. One of them, being the free version, put a watermark in the background. Another converted the videos fine, but put subtitles on all the videos...incorrect subtitles at that.

      Just out of interest,
why do you want to convert away from Matroska?
      it's a brilliant AV container

To my knowledge, it's the only container to support DVD menus, chapter indexes and configurable aspect ratios
not to mention all the other stuff

Because I want to be able to watch the video files from my USB on my Xbox 360 so I can watch them on a bigger screen. Xbox360s only support windows media video files.

I could burn them, but I'm a teenager who's strapped for cash and I really can't afford to spend my money on DVDs when I can watch them on my computer.

Changing from a matroska container (mkv) to Windows Media Video container (wma) isn't to convert video, it's remuxing.

Do you want to change the way the video is encoded, or just change to a more supported container?

Edit: Perhaps you can try the tools mentioned in this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-109461.html
Edit #2: If you've got a genuine windows computer, you can download Windows Media Encoder, I think that should work.

That's the one I've been using, but it keeps putting subtitles on the videos and I can't figure out how to stop it let alone why.
