      Need some help with laptop

One of my sisters friends have given me her laptop to fix.

      Its completely fucked.

When windows loads it gets that 'Restore Active desktop' message. Once I click on the button I then get a script error.

It doesn't let me right click, I cant open system restore or cmd. Everytime I try to boot it in safe mode the laptop just reverts back to the menu.

      Any ideas guys?

Sounds like it's fucked, reformat and re-install windows maybe(after backing important things up, of course)? You could also try getting some anti-virus programs on there and fixing it up. The lack of right-clicking sounds like what my school does to our accounts >.< is this on an admin account that you can't do this?

I don't know Windows well enough to fix an existing installation, but you could always boot up into a live Linux environment (Knoppix is designed for this, but you could just use the install CD of almost any distro), backup the data to external storage devices, erase the hard drive, and reinstall Windows from scratch. If they lost their Windows disk and if you don't have a spare one, maybe now would be a good time to get them off Windows forever...
