Unless it's a pay to play game like Final Fantasy XI, or World of Warcraft.

But if it's something like Half-Life, or FEAR, then no, you don't have to pay.

i dont see why you wouldnt be able to play online.

i found a game that i got about 7 years ago, and ive just found it again, and it turns out you can go online on it (and surprisingly enough, there is always a fair amount of people on), so online pc games have been going since way before xbox.

left 4 dead is going to have a good community for a while, valve games tend to be long lived.

Just don't go to the forums Thats where most of the complainers go suggesting stupid ideas...

But yeah, you'll get the occasional game with an A-hole but other than that, it's a great community.

And once this update comes that they've announced for the new Survival mode and the offical SDK, the community will get even better.
