Did you know the first matrix was designed on the "single user" model of DOS,
with users running with full root privileges,
where everyone would be happy

It was a disaster, entire crops of users were lost
due to viruses and curious fiddling of system files
(usually trying to disable the draconian activation lock-downs)

Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this,
a poor imitation of the Unix multi-user security model
now you get bugged for confirmation everytime you want to change the wallpaper on your machine

I say your machine,
but as soon as we added the Genuine Advantage and other DRM mechansims,
it really became our machine, which of course is what this is all about
