Check to make sure everything is plugged in correctly.
If it's not that then you might have to send it back to Microsoft to get it fixed.
That's common, The 360 is probably the worst console ever made when it comes to reliability. Send it to Microsoft and have them fix it. I wish that I could tell you more, but the red ring doesn't give any insight to the problem and opening the box voids the warranty.
there's something like a 30% failure rate on those things...
Yeah, it was fucked up, my 360 had worked fine for two years straight, and then a couple weeks ago, BAM, red ring. I was so pissed off, and I still have to send the thing in to get it fixed.
Ok, so this is what you do (Works 90% of the time, but sounds completely and utterly ridiculous)
Wrap your 360 in a towel. Let it sit and heat up for, say, 15 minutes. Then restart it. Chances are, it will start working again. Not for long though, but it'll prolong your 360's life for a couple of weeks max.
And if you think I'm being an arse-hole and talking rubbish, I'm totally not. This trick is proven to work and I've even seen it done on my friend's Xbox.
yeah he isn't making the towel trick up, i've heard others use it successfully, however it wont keep your 360 going forever.
Also how many lights are lit up on the ring?
3 or 1 and your fucked( they both mean hardware failure).. 4 isn't bad at all and i believe 2 is also fixable.

My brother sent his Xbox in for the same issue 2 weeks ago Microsoft had UPS send a box for him to box it in and return lables the only thing you have to do is pack it and drop it off at your nearest UPS. He got it back fast and they gave him a free 6 month Gold Pass and a lot of new face plates and stuff. He seemed happy.
