As long as you're not doing an critical stuff on it, I think you could use hardware glue to retouch the contacts. I would probably solder them anyway though. |

So, my parents found me a computer at a garage sale for 2 dollars. It's an inspiron 1000 (very crap... ~2 ghz, 512 mb RAM, 40 GB HD). All of the parts work fine, the only part that is wrong is that the jack won't transfer power to the computer. Anyways, I opened it up and found that that was indeed the problem. The little rod that fits inside the AC connector is broken off so the energy can't transfer. And actually, the rest of the broken off power jack was still inside of the computer. To fix this, should I remove the old one and buy one off the internet and then solder it onto the old laptop, or should I just use some sort of glue and glue the old one together and make sure the metal contacts from the rod to the rest of the laptop touch (it doesn't look like they need to be soldered). |
