      iPod :(

I had my iPod sitting on my desk while listening to music, and it fell to the floor and tugged the cord. The right earphone stopped playing, so at first I thought it was my 'phones, which would've pissed me off cause they were $40 and I didn't get them that long ago.

Anyway, I went to take them out and noticed that when halfway out the left stopped playing, but the right one started again. I went to test my earphones in the computer, and both work fine. Its only with the iPod that they're screwed.

I don't want to have to send it in to get fixed, I can't go that long without my music. But I might have to unless someone knows an alternative

      Crap.

      Have you tried resetting it?

I have a mini from back in the day, and I've dropped it probably 20 or so times in the 3 years that I've had it. It has bits missing, scratches.. but still works! Very recently though the buttons have become harder to push. I think it's finally starting to die.

I have the same old dinosaur, my clicker wheel got stuck a while ago and I had to figure out how to use my iPod without the "play" and "pause" button.

And Exo, that reminds me of a funny story from high school... I was in the bathroom taking a leak and there was some guy using the last urinal on the right. This urinal was special, because out of the two dozen or so in the bathroom, it's the only one with some kind of failure that makes it fill up almost to the brim with water and, well, the rest... So anyways, this guy was taking a leak while listening to his iPod (it was in some slot on the straps of his bag) full blast. When he finishes, he zipps up and you hear a *pleewcshh*, followed by a *TABARNACLE!*. Yes, he dropped it in there. No, he never picked it up ...

Yeah, resetting it didn't help. Its the headphone jack itself that I think is the problem. I opened it up but I can't get to the jack, well at least not in a way to check it out to fix. I put it back together, you think Apple would notice if I sent it in?

This was perfect timing too. I still don't have all my music back from my virus attack. I am, as we speak, downloading approximately 1500 songs. (Based on if each file I have has on average 3 discs, and each disc has on average 10 songs).

So I have no music on my computer, and I can't use my iPod.

If I get nutty these next few days, you know why.

Unless you got a warranty for it (warranties are rip-off's), I wouldn't suggest sending it in because it could cost a lot more money than you intend to spend. It might be cheaper to buy a used ipod online.

Edit: On second thought...maybe Steve Jobs just has a bone to pick with you?

So using one of the library restore programs didn't work to put your music back on your computer?

No, I don't think Apple will notice (or even care) that you opened your iPod, I don't think simply opening it voids the warranty anyway. Don't quote me on that though. This might be a stupid suggestion, but have you tried blowing in the jack?

EDIT: Applecare is free, only the extended warranty is a ripoff How old is your iPod?

I know how to get it off without the library restore programs. It worked, just not well. Some songs can't be located, and some still show up with the stupid iPod indexing code even in iTunes, and I'm not renaming 100s and 100s of songs. Be faster just to re-downlo-- er, get them all again.

Some songs will play until 3-5 seconds, then stop and move on as well. Some work flawlessly, but others have problems.

Well they say opening it voids the warranty, but I've heard people that have sent it in after opening it and Apple still dealt with it. Other cases weren't so lucky. Its kinda 50-50 here at the moment.

      Yeah, no luck.

Almost a year and a half I guess? Its 5th Generation 30gig. Got it in August of last year.

Ah, priceless (or, should I say, rather expensive).

My Sandisk Sansa is crashing on me all the time now, and Sandisk don't even have UK email address .
