      Help Creating Dream Journal Software

I was wondering if there was anyone with programming knowledge that would help me make Dream Journal software. It should be a pretty simple project, but I've been wasting my time messing around trying to get freeware compilers to work, and then I installed windows vista. A whole new set of problems.

I do have programing knowledge, but it's been years since I've actually made any programs. I've been working more with PHP and automation scripts. I'm not asking for anyone to make the whole thing for me, but someone else interested in working towards the same goal

There are a few freeware dream journal programs available already, but one of the main features of this one, besides saving a copy on your hard drive, would be the ability to upload directly to your online Dream Journal, already formated.

I have a ton of other options for a very customizable DJ, that should be in theory be easy to impliment once the basics are down.

I'm looking mainly for programmers, but we can always find a use for good original art if anyone would like to contribute. Or just let me know if there are any particular features you would like to see in your dream journal.

Anyone interested in lending a hand? If left to my own devices, it will take forever to get this finished

you might find you're going over the top
why not MS Word with a bit of VBA to spice it up?
and if that's not suitable, why not?

might be an idea to just note down the main features and functionality you're looking for

I agree, sounds like you're attempting redundant work. Unless the goal is to learn about software dev, you wouldn't get too much out of it.

Also, if you want it online, why not just host a wiki, and define formatting templates that make it Dream journal friendly?

I'm not trying to reinvent the notepad here, I have certain features I need in a DJ if I'm going to be able take my dreaming practices to the next level.

IN particular, a keyword search could come in handy when you have 15 years worth of journal entries.

Also being able to chain link related dreams one to another, and creating groupings for other types of dreams. Entries would be made chronologically, but being able to views dreams by length or importance would come in handy. Among other things.

A nice spiral notebook. With a pen. Unlike Vista, it doesn't crash.
This lucid dream has encountered a fatal error! Reboot? [Y/N]

If you look around for wikis, I bet most of them actually implement some or all of the features you listed. And if not, many of them (e.g. wiki tikki tavi) are highly extensible, so all it would require is a bit of PHP to add particular features you want. If you're serious about this, look into it.

I suggest taking a PHP blogging program and adding those features. Some blogs even let you have keywords for your posts and let you get all the blog posts for a specific keyword (I think you mentioned that feature.)
