Lose, Cellphone-size Screens

Hello peoples. As you know I am what many would call "nuts" and I have another Crazy sceintific plan to build something really cool. I don't want to go into details cuz it would take ages to explain and that's not the point of this Topic.

My Question was: Does ANYONE know where I can get loose, small, good-quality screens as seen on modern Cellphones like the LG-chocolat?

And by loose screens I mean only a screen with an imput in which I can plug a cable leading to my PC. Just so I can send a Video-signal from my PC to that screen. My plan is to, somehow, hook up 2 loose screens to my PC that can play 2 different movies simultaniously; each screen a different video signal.

Does anyone know where I may find screens like this?
Help would be greatly appreciated; The concept for which I need this is awesome.

Yikes! I don't know of anything exactly like that. You might have to buy the screen and build a circuit board with some support hardware around it. High quality screens, not purchased in bulk are also a little expensive.

I wonder if you could buy a couple of cheap portible TVs on e-bay instead?

psp screens any use? they would also have the hardware and media support your looking for. maybe too big if your thinking spectacle size tho? am i right? tell us more- is it a device to induce instant schizophrenia perhaps?
or a multriscreen cinema for mice?

Haha if I could build a device that induces instant Schizophrenia I know a couple of people I'd immediately try that out on Gnagnagna! ;) But you can do that Much easier: Make an alcoholic Tincure with relatively high amounts of Datura, Mushrooms, LSD, Nutmeg, DMT, MDMA, Mescaline cactus, LSA seeds, Cannabis, Opium poppy & Amphetamines and load this Schizoid tincture into a Seringe like Dart. Blow this dart through a pipe into someone you kinda "dislike" and that should do the trick :D muhahaha I'm such an ass.

Actually the screen of my LG-chocolat cellphone is JUST the right size. I am planning to build 3D stereoscopic Goggles through which 3D movies can be watched. It's not difficult at all to make these movies; this part I allready have planned out. The rest of the entire device I have also planned out. I just need the screens.

The size of the screen does not need to be exactly the size of an LG-chocolat cellphone screen but it shouldn't be larger than a pack of cigarettes.

im sure ive seen these 3d goggles somewhere before. mmmmmmmmmmm
cant remember where i do however remember a pair you could get for the ps2 when it was first released(not 3d tho)- its not just the dmt talking either i remember playing wipeout with them, would they not suffice? maybe a bit a old tech tho but as a prototype you could get very cheap i should think all you need to do is split the feed and hello 3d. as for movies in format already the imax 3d uses two seperate cameras for its 3d polarisation technologies maybe you can get your hands on one of those as test footage?

They do exist, but are not very customer facing
(my dad had this problem when he wanted an external lcd display for his boat - had to accept component video and be water proof)

Small external displays come in many guises, some things you can try are:

- TV displays in the back of saloon car headrests
- Mirroring boat radar display or electronic charts to a screen on a boats flying bridge
- Rear-view camera displays for reversing big camper vans / lorries
- External displays you clip onto your arm for video cameras when scuba-diving
that sort of thing

so you may have to go through car / boat parts dealers to actually get any suppliers

I haven't been stoned in a while. I reckon it's about time I should. :P Tomorrow's a Ska/Rocksteady concert where I'll go to with my Sister. When I'm with her I always smoke immense amounts so I'm allright ;)

I really need to be able to play my own 3D movies with it. So it somehow needs to be open to input from my PC.

The link you gave me is an interresting device indeed. Do you think I can make my own stereoscopic movies and play it through those goggles though? Cuz if it will not allow me to play my own, homemade, stereoscopic movies I'd rather try to find these display screens I mentioned earlier.

And as for the Stereoscopic 3D moviesWell maybe that's where one of you people can help. I would need help from someone who is experienced with 3D modelling programs such as 3D studio Max and then in particulair making Animations of these 3D models using a movable Camera view point. or 2 actually.

doesnt seem like those ones are the only ones on the market from the blurb and they say they can cope with a standard video feed so a usb option wouldnt be difficult to knock up methinks. gl luck have a cool night

Were are you from? When you're comming to holland and by chance get anywhere near Rotterdam be sure to let me know. We can smoke some green Goods together. Yeah the Ska, Rocksteady night will rock.

I've had more practical ideas to use than using loose displayscreens; I think I will stick to that for now.
But in the meanwhile if anyone can help, with 3D modeling and animating sure let me know. I'm not stopping this project ever :D

Are steroscopic displays also know as Instant Headache Machines?

Would an iPod screen work? They are under fifty bucks each.

Haha no, not to the best of my knowledge. Stereoscopic displays are meant to fully recreate Depth as seen in reality but then on flat surfaces. If you ever hada ViewMaster you may know what stunning 3D effect I mean.

But about the Ipod LCDscreen:
Sweeeeet! :D That´ll be just fine. One thing though: Can it play average quality movies such as movies filmed with a handycam outdoors and stuff? It doesn't need to be absolutely fabulous quality as long as it can play colored, average quality movies it will be just perfect. Can it do that?

Now the only thing I need to fix is to be able to input a Video signal via PC. This may require some Electro mechanical knowledge, which I don't have, since it has a ribbon cable. The ribbon cable needs to be inserted into a ribbon cable slot and this slot in turn needs to be attatched to a cable running to my PC's Videocard slot so the LCDscreen can receive Videosignals of homemade movies.

Does anyone know if this is really difficult or do-able for me?
Otherwise I might ask around a couple of friends who may have some electro mechanic knowledge to see if they can help me with this.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to make the LCD screen attatchable to my PC: I'd love to hear it off course.

Ipods can play any movie that you convert to their file format. I use something called 3pg converter to make my avi movies ipod format. If you can't find it and want me to get a converter for me just PM or ask me.

using the in built hardware on the ipod would be very difficult to sync the two screens together, however a screen for a digital camera that connects via usb or similar would suffice if you could find camera that will play files directly from your pc harddrive rather than the cameras own memory, or possibly you could ribbon connect a pc to the flash/sd drive on the camera. just ideas but may help.

It's a bit more expensive and a bit bigger (7 inch screens) but it's perfect for the Job since it is perfectly connectable to pretty much any device: DVD players, PCs...etc

Now I need to make StereoScopic movies. I can do that with cameras, but it can also be done with animations of 3D scenery made in 3D modelling programs. I have some wicked Ideas about Sceneries I would like to model and animate for this purpose. And as many of you know I draw a whole lot so I can Draw alot of Concept Sketches of awesome 3D scenery which a skillfull 3D modeller/Animator can turn into a 3D Scenery in programs such as Maya and 3D studio Max.

If anyone here who can help me with that is interrested then PM me. Help would be greatly appreciated :)

You could split the screen and have it render one side from four inches to the left of the camera from the other side, it would make perfect movies every time.

but seriously, producing footage for this medium is gonna be big business with the new multiviewer polarising technology thats on its way to your cinemas soon - loads of articles on google on it.

yeah 2 VideoCameras should Record simultaniously. The space between the 2 lenses of the 2 cameras should equal the space between your left and right eye to geta left and right eye video of the same scene. I can film real life videos like this. I allready have that figured out. Just need to buy 2 cameras for this purpose: The site I mentioned earlier also has these tiny tiny mini wireless cameras. Me and a friend, who's also interrested, will finance it together to split the costs. We will both buy 1 camera and 1 7" display screen each.

But before I'm going to film real life movies I want to make some animated movies of 3D modelled scenes. I don't have any such programs YET since I just have a new PC. I probably WILL soon when I buy an Apple I-book for my Study, but I wont be able to do such things before that time.
So now I'm looking for people that have 3Dmodeling skills and have a 3D program.

There's no back to it, and I'd have to clean it up and prelight it if you were to use it in a real-time 3d thing, but that's the easy part - this project seems pretty advanced, it'll take a lot of programming and a lot of wiring for the screens etc, but it might just work. As for the programming part, it might just be smarter to modify another finished 3d engine, such as sauerbraten. The game part of that program is less than impressive, but it does have some pretty neat editing tools and it would be even more fun in true 3D, methinks. Source is moddable as well, but I'm not sure how possible it would be to get, say, counter-strike to work with this. That would be pretty cool, though.

You say you have a PC? If you can, get Maya. Excellent program. If you can't get that, though, then I guess you could settle for Blender (I'm not particularly fond of Blender, but other people seem to like it so meh)
