A screenshot from the internet: http://www.joomlatutorials.com/screenbooks...erver/pic11.png

See that sidebar on the left? It is annoying and worthless to me...

I want this view to be permanently there instead...

I know HOW to get it there... (view>>explorer bar>>folders), but every time I open a new folder it resets back to the other view. I've tried clicking "apply to all folders" too. How do I get that windows explorer like sidebar to always be there, and not that other "common tasks" sidebar?

Set it up the way you want, then go Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and there's a "apply to all folders" button. Also, you might want to set your windows to "classic mode" or whatever it's called (I find the XP start menu just as annoying/worthless as the XP sidebar thing - big waste of space).

That doesn't work... I said that even with it "applied to all folders" it still doesn't show the folder view every time. I tried the classic mode before, and that just makes it so the common tasks sidebar doesn't come up, but in fact nothing comes up instead. I have to manually click the folders thing each time...

Are you sure? Under Tools->Folder Options, on the General tab, the very first option ("Tasks" - stupidly named) has the option to turn off the common tasks sidebar. Just use that.

Yeah, but it just shows NO sidebar, so I still have to manually turn it on. Instead of showing the common tasks thing as default, it shows nothing as default. But I don't really care too much anymore...

Ah I see. Well, in my case, if I just dbl-click on "my computer" or something, I don't get any sidebar. But if I do "(windows button)-E" to open windows explorer, I get the sidebar just fine. That's actually how I like it, so I'm all good hehe.
