Looking for Graph/Network flow graphical rendering tools?

For a pet project of mine, I'd like to visually render the concept of "flow" through a "network" (a graph with weighted edges). Is there something out there that already allows me to do this? It can be absolutely rudimentary. I can provide all the data (when to transfer a "dot" from one node to another, etc.) and I want it to generate an animation of the system for me.

Is such a thing available, open source, out there? I can probably just build it from scratch, or using some unrelated pieces, but I'm sure I'm not the first person to want to.

Packet Tracer is a great program that should do exactly what you want, but it is only free to students of Cisco Academy. So if you want packet tracer, you may want to search around for free downloads of it somewhere. Not that i'm advocating software piracy.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. I suspect that one will be way too "computer network" centric (it's a router simulator), but ya never know!

packet tracer is pretty awesome, indeed. I didn't even know they offered it to people who weren't students, though.

I've used Packet tracer. Pretty easy to use.
