Thread: Task of the Year '22: Build Our Dream Base!

Hm, how high were the cliffs? I'm guessing the blocky things around the beacon are the stone-carved buildings and such that you described in your dream? While the faraway buildings are the bay-side city?

Even with these questions, there's already plenty of details here, so I'll start on something simple I think.

I'd say sea level was roughly 300ft. below the cliffs. And yep, those blocky things are said buildings. There's also supposed to be a bunch of walkways, bridges, benches, statues, and stone gardens, but those kind of details are well beyond my grasp, lol! I really can't stress enough how the site is one broad, continuous, seemingly endless complex, of which encompasses even those megabuildings in the background. Said buildings were not part of some distant city, and unlike as they are (unintentionally) depicted above, weren't modern office towers; that was merely my initial assessment when I first saw their silhouettes in the background.

Hopefully, any (totally not terrible!) future drawings from my part won't be as confusing!

Okay, thanks for the clarifications! So, the tall buildings in the distance would be thematically related to the lower site around the beacon? I'll have to keep that in mind too.

For now, this is what I made in about an hour as a quick thing about/around the beacon thing. Artistic license and all that, since, I'm not inside your head and all.

Got lucid last night, my goal to find the beacon but I forgot! Maybe next time.

I'd like to do a different one that integrates both of your completed tasks in one thing, if I could find time to do it. Doing the art was a good way to get me really motivated/thinking about the lucid objectives before sleep... Except, of course, I couldn't think of which locations would be valid, and had poor sleep with little time to even recall dreams in the morning anyway.

MoonageDaydream, I was wondering, is there a way that we might know what the outside of the base would look like or is this up to each dreamer? I guess I wondered if all the rooms are necessarily part of one building or not as I don't think this aspect regarding the exterior was mentioned in your original post. So, can they be loosely connected, i.e. via a garden space or something, so long as it leads to an existing (completed challenge) area?

It can be one, under the "Your Ideas Here" section. I would call it "Outer Perimeter". Anyone is welcome to attempt this. If, you would rather attempt a different section, make sure to describe the outer perimeter if you do.

Dark, I saw your drawing and was like "Holy shit!"

I'm excited for this TOTY. I want to have a go at the training room. My dream guide and I can try to leave it in a good state for others to practice dream control in!

After an annoying 3 week dry spell I had a great lucid and found the training room!

…I remember my goal to find the dream base for the TOTY and first need to change the location. As I’ve done before, I shut my eyes to erase the current dream scene. Then I start walking forward with my arms stretched out, with the expectation to find one of the stone structures from RelicWraiths vision of the base exterior. I walk blindly, feeling around for something and eventually my hands come in contact with a solid, gritty stone surface. I open my eyes to view what I’ve discovered but the location hasn’t fully formed yet and all I can make out is a vague brown patch which is the stone in front of me. I keep interacting with it and will it to become clearer but it remains a blur. I turn and look for something else instead and behind me I see a tall brown post, barely visible in the darkness. It hasn’t fully formed yet either but I wonder if it could be the pillar section of the beacon. I look up and see a glowing yellow light source in the dark void above me and I conclude It must be the beacon. With hope and desperation I leave my stone and grab onto the beacon post instead. I rub my hands up and down it, hoping the location will appear but everything remains out of focus.

I keep searching and suddenly find a door which I hope will lead into one of the buildings. I let myself in and instantly an interior corridor forms clearly in front of me. It has a rather old fashioned hotel vibe about it, with dim lighting and old decor. I make my way through it slowly and see other people around. A young woman then comes running up to me in colourful, retro jogging attire. She’s blonde with pig tails and is jogging on the spot. “Hello, are you from dreamviews?” I ask her, wondering if she’s another dreamer. “Yep” she says and then starts doing boxing punches as if she’s warming up for a fight. “Oh, is this the training room!?” I ask, remembering that was one of the TOTY rooms. “Yes” she confirms. “Can you teach me something?” I ask. “I’m allergic to ducks” she replies. I laugh at the nonsense and look forward to writing that part on Dreamviews.

I decide to head back outside and see if the exterior has now formed. I leave through the door I came in at and see outside has become a small, square courtyard surrounded by grand, oriental buildings as if I’ve gone back in time to Imperial China. “Oh wow” I say, amazed at the crystal clear location that has now fully formed in front of me. I step out into the square and see first a tall, wooden post in the centre, about 8ft tall with a pointed top (like the Washington monument). I assume it’s the post I was feeling earlier and a failed re-creation of the beacon pillar. I stand in the centre and look around 360 degrees to take it all in. The entire courtyard is bordered by tall buildings with traditional oriental architecture. They’re made of a dark, wood panelling with the classic, pagoda style trims and rooftops. All the decoration appears to be made of a dark, red Rosewood and is beautifully carved. It’s then I see I’m not alone and a group of men are sat together in a group around small, back tables. They’re of asian ethnicity and wearing black robes, or armour but no helmets. They don’t look too pleased to see me and soon I hear an angry foreign voice shouting behind me, who I assume is their commander or teacher. I know I’m not welcome here so I waste no time and get to work examining all the details and making mental notes so I can describe it clearly in the forum later. I look to the floor first which is made up of grey, slate squares which shimmer silver as you walk over them. I then walk to the post in the centre and find a sculpture in front suspended between two posts. It’s a circular frame made up of wooden blocks of different lengths. The outside looks spiky and messy but it leaves a perfect, spherical hole in the centre (It looks a bit like a sun). I admire it but only for a moment before I hear another angry comment from the commander behind me who is clearly annoyed at my rude interruption. “Ok, ok” I say getting the hint. The last thing I see is a row of dangling black objects hung on a rope. I go up to inspect them and see they’re actually small, charred animal corpses and most disturbing, human limbs as well! “Ok that’s enough” I think to myself not wanting to linger much longer and end up like these poor fellas. I get moving and leave the square but the dream fades and ends shortly after.

I really wanted to re-create RelicWraiths vision of the exterior with the globe beacon but the dream just wasn’t playing ball. That said there were elements like the post which was clearly my minds attempt to re-create it. It was a cool location though and I saw it as an alternative version of the base. Perhaps that’s what we should expect going forward that the base will be influenced by each other’s dreams but will inevitably become our own unique version of it.

I'm jealous of LDers who can converse (however randomly) with their DCs: mine just sort of look at me with big moony sad eyes and either utter gibberish phrases or simple one-word responses.
"I'm allergic to ducks!" would be a huge improvement!

I think we can expect that every dreamer will have their own interpretation of the base, otherwise it would become impossible to make progress on new rooms if the existing structures have to be "verified" first in the dream.

Awesome, congrats. I find I have to drill my goal into my skull before bed to remember it.

Most of the time I get blank looks and one word answers from my DCs so you’re not alone. It’s only occasionally I get a full sentence.

I did make an attempt last night to find the base, but, only managed to find some random kitchen. And my mom was inside. I ate a blueberry muffin. Calling it a fail.

I tried teleporting to my own room in the base in a lucid recently. I failed because I wasn't wearing my Robes of Anarak which is the only way I know how to teleport.

I almost made it to the base last night. I saw a beautiful clearing above a cliff and I was flying straight for it.... unfortunately, didn't make it before waking up. Next time.

Trying to make the library by using the one I had in school as base . no luck tho , I tried to teleport to it but I ended up seeing huge stairs with a thunderstorm raging outside

So I feel a bit weird popping in out of nowhere after lurking for a a while, but I had a lucid dream this morning where I found the dream base and explored the bathroom/bath hall.

Spoiler for Task of the Year Task 1 Option 5: Bathroom/bath hall - Success:

I find myself on a bicycle and focus on pedaling as fast as I can, feeling my legs move, focusing on the feel of the handlebars against my palms. Eventually a cityscape forms around me as I ride along streets heading down towards the coastline. As I reach the water, I find stone walls and a tall pillar with a light on top (though I'm afraid to look at the light because it's too bright). This must be the beacon! I enter into a stone tower and start climbing a spiral staircase until I come out onto a pathway along time top of the stone wall. The sun is rising over blue waters, and it reminds me a little bit of Dubrovnik. The stone walls of the "castle" spread out far into the distance as far as I can see. This place must be huge! Somehow, I find myself in a hallway with small openings for windows. I find my coworker Carla, who tells me that this is her boyfriend's room and how she is so proud of him for getting his own place. I focus on finding the bathroom and Carla turns around and starts walking fast. I run to keep up with her. Carla leads me to a large windowless room lined floor to ceiling with dark blue mosaic tiles, with some purple tiles thrown in for contrast. There are tub-like enclosures of various sizes that rise up from the tile floor. I get in one and find that it conforms almost perfectly to my size. A tap appears and starts filling the tub with water and bubbles. I wonder if the tap is going to irritate me if I want to lean back, but then the tap disappears into the wall and the water seems to start flowing from underneath to fill the tub the rest of the way. The whole room does seem rather dark, and I look up to see a dark ceiling with a large chandelier providing the only light. I get out of the tub and try to look around the rest of the room. I find privacy screens, probably for getting dressed, but the screen also hides a door leading to the commode. Another doorway leads to a hall with a large mirror. I'm a bit surprised to find myself wrapped in a large bath towel, but it feels nice and soft. I continue past the mirror and see more doors leading to individual shower stalls with same dark blue tiles. Past the showers, there is a large trench running through the tile floor with ankle-deep water flowing through it. "But why do they need a river in the bathroom?" I wonder. I step into the water and it is cold but refreshing. I suppose it's just to wash your feet? I follow the river until I find myself back outside on the stone walls. There is a large rectangular box lined with glass panels, and inside of it there is a fire burning (just fire, no logs or coals). It gives off quite a bit of heat, so I linger and warm up as I watch the sun rise over the water.

Eheheh, sorry for the long absence. I've got a success at a TOTY today. If I'm honest, my choosing a task that has yet to be completed was practically blind luck.

Spoiler for TOTY 2022 - Task 1 - Option 9 - Build a garden - Success:

...In an instant, I zoomed near the shores of a rocky beach. The waves were particularly large and turbulant. Wasn't keen on taking a dip in this frigid environment, so I kept a good span away from the water. I hovered by the coastline, following it in one direction. As I did, I thought of tasks. The environment reminded me of the setting for the Dream Base. And so, I looked for such.

Unwavering I dashed beside the beach, blue energy enveloping my armor. In time, the shadows of large buildings could be seen far within miles of the sea. None of these seemed to resemble my destination. I go on for about a minute, when I notice a particularly vast spiral structure complex, much larger than any man-made thing I've ever seen. At its top rested what seemed like a pole, maybe a very large lightning rod. On closer look, it was a pillar of some kind. Squinting harder, I could see what resembled a globe at its tip. Hah! There it is! Curiously, the beacon itself wasn't active. Well, one problem at a time. For now, I had a task to complete.

I launched myself towards the megacomplex, and in a single bound, made it to its base. This time, I was before a singular structure, a stone building of ancient construction that easily spanned an entire mountain range. Each level, roughly a story between each, became narrower the higher it went. From some perspective, this gave it the appearance of a Mayan pyramid, if of infinitely larger proportions. In other viewpoints, it seemed like a staircase for giants. Speaking of stairs, I found no obvious way to elevate the building, nor of any immediate entrance. I resorted to jumping and climbing between each level (I somehow forgot I could fly). I scale all the way to the tenth level, where I finally find a way inside.

Taking a deep breath, I enter. Great anticipation almost made me lose hold of the dream, the surroundings getting darker. I constantly reassured myself I was in the Dream Base, exploring its garden. Things clarify soon. Now, I found myself in a long, narrow room. The constructions here were primarily made of clay, and seemed of Babylonian architecture. On the floor's stone surface was also a number of garden plots, narrow wooden beams forming rectangular templates and filled with dirt of almost pitch black. Bingo!

However, these plots were plainly empty. I haphazardly point around, when suddenly, a number of sprouts grew! Joyfully, I "paint" the dirt with more young plants. Some AR interface gave me an option for a variety of things to grow. For the moment, I opted simply between some kind of berry vine on the plots, as well as a type of decorative fern near the walls. Being terrible at interior decoration, the results ended up looking kinda messy. "No matter", I thought. "So long as something grew."

Once there was not much space to fill, I went to the far end of the room, to find a doorway. I went through, and found myself in a winding hallway, an array of many more doorways opening with no end in sight. I glanced into some of these, to find more narrow rooms with their own garden plots. One of these rooms was unique in that it had no such features. Instead, it appeared to be a squat bedroom. There was just enough room to fit a single bed and a few shelves. The bed's frames, and the other constructions, were made of unfurnished wood. Yet, the mattress itself looked to be of contemporary work. The sight of a pile of split lumber made it obvious this section was still a work in progress.

Wary of getting lost, I made it back to my original garden section. The plants were still no larger than they were before. Feeling impatient, I motioned my finger to create a holographic clock. I turned the hands in the ethereal device rapidly in hopes of speeding up time. Even though it was the intent, I was still surprised to find this spell worked. Before me, I saw the sprouts becoming larger and fuller. In seconds, I was surrounded by berry-filled vines, while ferns of tall, razor-shaped leaves decorated the sides. There was very little room to move around. Again, I blamed my poor decorating skills. But hey, I had at least I had a garden. Task complete!

I think I finally made it last night! At least, I went to where a DC told me it was, and found a place that seemed to fit. But I didn't add anything so no wings. A personal success though.

...Walking back into the building, I see a few displays that are reminiscent of the dream that I had been having about the aquatic creature. I do a nose pinch RC, and find that I’m dreaming! I try to go looking for the dream base, by imagining it behind me (a portal?), but when I turn around I don’t notice anything different. There is a room full of people. I call out for the Dream Base library, and as I do I see words printed in the dream world that say the words that I’m calling for. One I remember specifically is the word “library”. Where is the Dream Base? Then I remember reading about asking a DC for help. I see a girl sitting at a table near me and ask her where the Dream Base is.

“It’s over there behind Tony,” she says, possibly pointing in the direction she means.

That’s nice to know, but who’s Tony? I start calling out “Tony!” and see a man that looks vaguely Hispanic/Latino sitting at another table. That’s probably Tony. I go look behind him, and see a door leading outside. By this time, I have the idea that what I’m looking for is called a “resort”, and I see a couple of people out the window in bathing suits. I go outside to find myself in a seaside area. I think I correct myself on the “resort” thing and call out for the Dream Base (or Dream Base library). Much of this time I think I’ve been somewhat frantically calling out for the Dream Base, or the Dream Base library. I decide it would be easier to focus on just saying “Dream Base”.

I’m in a small open area, a stone street surrounded by buildings. Looking up, I see a helicopter hovering nearby, as though it’s watching me. I start to look around for the Beacon Tower. I see a large round building. Looking upwards, it appears to be a short tower, ending in a squarish pillar at the top. Then I remember the light that’s supposed to be coming from the column, and a moment later I notice a streak of white across the sky above the tower I was looking at. Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a jet trail, but I’m skeptical that it wasn’t the Beacon light considering how my dreams seem to lag a bit in responding to my suggestions.
