Problems Sleeping Due to Noise

I recently moved into college and I've been having a really hard time sleeping because of my upstairs neighbors. They are incredibly loud and very inconsiderate. They roll their desk chairs across the room and slam drawers late into the night and have woken me up on many occasions. To make matters worse, my roommate is muslim and has to get up at 4 AM to pray and eat for Ramadan. She wakes me up many mornings and I have a lot of trouble getting back to sleep. What is the best way to get to sleep despite these loud distractions? I've tried ear plugs but the guys upstairs are mostly stomping and slamming, so the vibrations are as disturbing as the noise. I have also tried listening to guided meditation or other tracks (like the Yoga Nidra track posted a while ago) not to WILD, but to help me get relaxed enough to fall asleep. However, that takes about an hour for me to get tired enough to ignore the noises. I've asked my neighnors multiple times to please be quiet after midnight, but they are totally oblivious and usually high, so they don't seem to care much. So any suggestions?

I'd say go to the head person or whatever and tell them that those people are being too loud and that they be silenced or that you be moved. They shouldn't be getting high in college in the first place...

Thats not really an option. There are no 'people in charge' per say due to the philosophy of the campus. I've spoken to them three times, hopefully the message will set in. But any suggestions other than forcing them to shut up?

You could go on a killing spree and take out all of the noisy people. In addition to the earplugs, might I recommend Melatonin. It's the chemical in the brain that puts you to sleep, and you can buy sleep aids made from it at any pharmacy. It's also happens to be a well known lucid aid. Actually most of the tablets also have B6 in them for that reason. Don't take them every day though, or you can develop dependancy.

Find some VERY large people, tell them that you need to borrow them for a second, and explain to them what's going on, and have them come with you when you have to tell them to keep it down next time. Hopefully the very large men will be intemidating.

Go to the room above them when they try to sleep and stomp around to keep them awake. All seriousness, earplugs and some kind of sleeping aid, but beware of anything other than melatonin hurting lucidity.

Will melatonin actually help put you to sleep or just regulate your sleep cycle? I am tired at the same time each night, the problem is that try as I might I cannot get to sleep with all their stomping, slamming, and rolling around up there.

Melatonin is a sleep aid, it will help you sleep.

I have an idea, get some firecrackers which are loud, but harmless and throw them at their dorm door and that should get their attention once they explode, sure its a little crazy but, Karma is a bitch, they deserve not to sleep also. Or, you can just rat them out about getting high, get them drug tested...i would have NO mercy for people who ruin my sleep.

I bought some Silencioes the day I decided to start exploring my dreams again. They're $2.00 in the sports and outdoor department in Wal-Mart. And they're made for use at a gun range so they should work fine.

I also hate how my bro says he won't let anyone let me smoke. And yet he always talks to me about how we should get high together and that he would lock me inside a car and "hot box." Peer pressure much? I don't fall for peer pressure and if I did, I would probably be smoking and drinking my way to death by now...
