      The Trippy but Hated Experience

My friend and I have been hving these weird experiences and i dont know what they are or what theyre called.

I would be falling asleep, Really confortable, and then ide be sorta dreaming but its way too faded to see anything. I'd be in both bodies, my dream body and real one and then something in the dream would come out of no where and hit me.
i would be Jolted awake and my muscles would tense up really fast and ide twitch wherever the thing hit me.

Like say, a rock would hit me on the leg, I would be woken up from that half sleep state so suddenly and my muscle would hurt and ache really bad.

This has happened with a number of items too. I would get hit by cars and my whole body would tense up really fast and it would hurt! i fell off a cliff and landed hard on my back, too! that one was really trippy because i also had that feeling of falling as i was jarred awake.

What is this and is it normal? Or even bad for me?

I think its a good sign, youre awarenss is in your energy body/dreaming body and when something happens you simply snap back into your physical body due to fright. Just my 2 censt worth.

its like a combination of freight and just the suddeness of getting hit by a car. its like those old dreams when your falling off a cliff and almost hit the ground and wake up all suddenly.

mabey you are just having muscle spasms, and your dream adjusts to match your physical pain?

i dont know. the dream would have to know which muscle is going to spasm at the exact time to do that.

you dont think mabey you felt it in the dream and reacted to it before your physical body noticed it was in pain... like pain-dream pain-awake?

well that happends to me ALOT when im trying to go to sleep like something will hit me or i will fall off a cliff and you acctuly feel it its wierd. the thing is in dreams everything is very life like you feel the same things and etc. so say u get hit with a ball in the head your body is gonna simulate that because your dreaming, then the brain is gonna recive a wave telling it that you have just been hit in the head so your mind will become awake then with all that awarness you will jolt back to your real body and awaken.

I have this same problem quite often as I am slowly drifting off to sleep. it's very obnoxious, because it always wakes me up when i am just on the virge of a dream in the mornings. I would like to think for me it is hypnagogic imagery, I hear a little about that but idk anything about it. I'll search around the forums for some info on it.

I've had this happen to me before as well. It's called a Hypnic Jerk, and it's pretty common.

When I used to fall asleep in one of my morning classes, at least once per class, I'd hear someone say my name just as I was falling asleep, so I'd get startled awake only to find out that it was just in my head and no one was calling me.

Comfy chairs + boring slide shows + large class + too early = me sleeping

I'm pretty sure everyone has these. Or will eventually. Also, in the second stage of sleep your body spasms as your nerves relax. You'd be surprised as to how quickly your dreams can improvise. Also, the reason you're feeling pain after experiencing something in a dream is because your mind is telling you to wake up... because your body is in pain you will dream that you are being hurt, and once it does this, you wake up and feel it.

I use to have these dreams due to growing pains as a kid, and now I get them because of charlie horses...which always seem to happen at the best part of the dream.
