Can lack of sleep have serious consequences for you health?

Although usually a fairly relaxed person I am currently not sleeping well and maybe get 3/4 hours each night. This has been going on for 4/5 weeks and I am considering taking medication.
I am getting married and a have few other stresses in my life but I usually sleep well. I feel tired in the morning but other than that have or feel no ill effects. Have I become accustomed to this or will it have serious efects on my health later in life? I still run, cycle and go to the gym.

Sleep is when your body repairs itself, so if you're body isn't able to repair, or do much reparing, it will creep up on you and will start to run you down. No sleep at all can cause eye focusing troubles after 2 days and slurred speech after 4. Hallucinations would follow later

I've been told you can die from getting no sleep, and lab rats have died in 28 days after sleep deprivation, but no studies have been done on humans (the record is 18 days)

It jsut sounds like stress induced. Because you're at least getting some sleep, your body should get used to it. If you're comfortable with it, I'd think about taking some sleep medication. Adults should get about 6-7hrs of sleep

      When are you getting married?
