What kind of goldfish shall I pick up!

There is the black moor http://www.your-goldfish.com/black-moor-goldfish.html

      Or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telescope_eye

      Or http://www.your-goldfish.com/comet-goldfish.html

      Or http://www.your-goldfish.com/goldfish-variety.html

      Or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryukin

So Dreamviews! Which one would you choose? (if anyone can tell me how to put the link in the word would be great. I tried it but no success.)

Comet are the prettiest but Pearl Scale are the tastiest.

I'm very tempted by the Black Moor* because it's different and looks interesting.

Now you've made me want to get one.

Only problem is, I don't know if I'll be able to resist frying it up and having it with my black pudding.

My favorite is the celestial goldfish. I also like the bubbleye. So cute and malformed. <3 <3 <3

Comet goldfish (and shubunkin) get fairly large, compared to the rest. Heck, they all get fairly large. I'd recommend a 15 gallon tank or larger, for any goldfish. They tend to crap more than any other fish.

Get a brown one. They are young, and you might like watching their colors fade to orange (or whatever color pattern they end up as!)

Please tell me you aren't planning to put it in a bowl.

      No, on a plate.

I'll shut up now and give HHH back his thread. Just in case anyone took me seriously, please don't. You can usually tell when I'm joking by when I say something.

Well no an aquarium. The store did not have a gold fish though! Sorry everyone. I got a beta fish instead. Those are pretty cool. I'll take a picture.

What's "VHS"? No they just had feeder fish, didn't want those. I just got a Betta fish because they look a lot better then the commons and they are low maintenance.

Please tell me you put the fish in an aquarium instead of a teeny tiny bowl thing that people usually use, or often times just CUPS in the pet store.

For some reason people think of beta fish as just decorations. Well, in case anyone was wondering, they are actually fish who like to swim around in plenty of space and be happy.

It would destroy the masterful subtlety and side-splitting hilarity if I explained the VHS joke. Ask someone over 30.

      The lady should be fired.

As long as it can swim around like a fish, rather than sit like a decoration and rot, then that's good!

She says she has 4 How often do I feed him? She said about 4 pellets every 2 days but that seems like a little bit of food.

Well I dunno 'bout that but there must be plenty of info you could find online. Prolly a good idea in any case, to get more than one opinion.

I'm replying to this thread so much because I LOVE fish. I had fish nearly all my life (until we went away on vacation and our relatives ended up killing them ).

We had a goldfish for about 7 years, and she (well.. we pretended it was a "she") was as important as a family's dog or cat might be. She had an interesting life..

I had 3 goldfish in a bowl about 3 or so gallons. They lived for a very long time but like you, went on vacation...

Came home with the bowl black from overfeeding.

Ha... You keep a betta in a bowl, then you're in for one lethargic fish. Why not splurge, get a 5 gallon? Or 10 gallon? Bettas can be put in with other fish, you know. They need a stable temperature.

In a shitty bowl, feed your betta 4 pellets a day. That's all they will metabolize. Don't forget to change the water (50&#37 twice a week. (Compared to a 10% waterchange once a week, if you had an aquarium.)

I'll show you my betta setup next week (when I'm back in my dorm). Three bettas, all in the same 10 gallon (two guys, one girl. I can switch their arrangements in the tank to alter their behavior). On second thought, I'll take a video. These guys are lively.

They don't fight? I heard that their stomach is the size of their eyeball so don't over feed, and awesome!

I bought some plastic knitting board thing for a couple bucks, and made it into a tank divider. :3

Females don't fight each other, I have two in my 30 gallon at home. Males don't fight fish of other species (most of the time. Fancy guppy fins might irritate them). In fact, usually it's a fish picking on the betta! (Keep bettas away from danios and tetras).
