Something Most Of Us Do (The Nasty Habit)

Well to start off.. i bit my nails.. well i used to..
it got so bad i would bit the skin arouund the nails..
i kinda kicked the habbit with some thing i thought of.
i put a bandaid on a finger on each of my hands.. and instead bite the band aid..
dont know if anyoen elese has this issue.. but if you do please leave have you deal with it..

i dont fele like spell chekcing my writing wright now ;)

I had that habit too; I used to bite the skin of my fingers till they started bleeding. I started wearing plastic gloves (like the ones in hospitals) indoors for a week. Then it ended. :banana:

I chew pencils the moment one enters my hand.

I love to chew 'em...

I had both of those first two mentioned habits when I was a kid. Not having all of the skin that was supposed to be on the ends of my fingers started driving me crazy, so that habit stopped. A friend of mine told me in junior high that you can get pin worms from biting your fingernails. I don't know if that's true or not, but that message was enough to get me to stop. Now I just tear and cut the ends of my fingernails off with other fingernails.

Crack my knuckles.

I crack pretty much anything that can be cracked in my body. A few years ago though, my neck stopped being able to crack... which is a really good thing because some chiropractor told our class in high school that a girl dropped over dead once when she did that. My toes have also gotten a bit tougher to crack. I go through phases with my back where sometimes it's easy to crack, other times it isn't. And I crack my knuckles alllllll the time. :P

i recently got this bad habit of biting the inside of my cheeks.... It's harder to quit than cigarettes. and i think cigarettes made me start this habit actually. Any tips besides, "just stop". That won't work because most of the time i'm not even thinking about it.

Whenever you feel like doing that, pop some food in your mouth? Then you'll be chewing food instead of yourself. Might get fat though. :D

You DO know why your neck stopped cracking, right?
Because your bones are so worn they simply cannot crack anymore. That's a bad sign, actually.

I have exactly the same problem BTW.

Oh! I also crack my knuckles, clench my teeth at times, and occasionally look at porn :P

Interesting. I can definitely see why that would be the case with my toes. I didn't crack my neck all that much before it stopped.

Actually, could you explain what exactly is going on when your bones get "worn?" Cracking is just releasing air...

I don't know really :?
My mom used to tell me that whenever I cracked my neck.
She's a doctor (sort of) so I believed her.

Yeah I crack me toes too when I remember to, they crack good as soon as you wake up. :lmao: Also crack my elbows, and legs.

I also crack just about every joint possible.

The only bad habit I can think of is popping my fingers and my back.

I am the same!

I pick my nose a lot when I'm alone.

One time, I plopped and my logs had bits of fingernails in them. They were also orange and smooth and smelled like I had been eating garbage the night before.

You could always substitute chewing "gum" for chewing food.

I crack my neck, fingers and any other joints that will crack, all the time.

There is no conclusive evidence that doing so causes long-term damage (as it is simply releasing pockets of air/gas that build up in the synovial fluid, between the joints) though there is anecdotal evidence that doing so, over the long term may increase the chances of getting arthritis, but I haven't seen very much (credible) that actually supports this.

I hope it doesn't cause arthritis. I've been popping my knuckles a few times a day for about thirty years. No arthritis yet. :shock:

I noticed alot of people here, just like me...crack their knuckles. Does cracking your knuckles lead to arthritis?

There is no long term evidence..

A chiropractor told me that cracking your fingers and whatnot helps to prevent arthritis (or delay it, whatever), not the other way around.

The question only comes in when you do it excessively.

oh well i think a university should do a study to hrlp tis never ending question

I bite my toenails

my worst habit is my bone cracking... i can crack almost any joint, and my sternum. yes, the little bone that holds my ribs together goes POP! someone told me i was gonna pop my ribs one day and my chest was gonna pop open and ppl would see a hamster running on a wheel in there! lol

apart from a slight cocaine habit and the occasional homicidal rampage i'm pretty normal.

oh yeah, and i bite my fingernails so much they are starting to bleed...
my teeth are also getting worn down. getting to be a bit of a problem, but quitting smoking was definitely easier than than quitting this, and ive been trying for some 5 years.

ive officially stopped biting my nails.. if u need help to... jsut ask me ;)
