You can make anything look good or bad if you take things out of context and distort the truth as does Mr. Moore.
As far as Canada, they give us (USA) a lot of trade & commerce, as do we to them. But they could not fight their way out of a paper bag. They are dependant on the United States. And I do not see Canada ever sticking their necks out for us.
I'm GLAD Canada hasn't gotten involved with the whole war thing. I know we're close with the US, and dependent on them for a number of things, but does that mean we deserve to be strung along on a leash and be made to look like Bush's pet? Fuck no! If we were supposed to follow them everywhere they went, we might as well just be called North America - because then everyone would hate the entire continent. We have the right to our own decisions, and that is NOTHING the US should have any part in. Not following the US into this downward spiral was the best thing Canada ever did. I LOVE YOU CANADA. It's a lot more fun being friends with people in the world than enemies.
kthxbai!!!!1~`1!!one!!!11eleven112`!!
Canada wouldn't follow it's allies into anything. They don't have to. They have the USA to protect them. So Canada can sit back and plead the fifth on everything.
It is easy to be freinds with everyone when you have someone else doing the dirty work that no other country has the balls to.
Is the "dirty work" making the world a better place?
If it was not for dirty work we would all be speaking German. And of coarse there is always speculation that there are hidden agendas. There probably are. But that said, rogue nations still have to be put into place. By doing so you are labled a bully.Quote:

Tony Blair's already done it.Quote:

When a country is fiercely attacking others and has a man in power responsible for 6 million racist deaths, OK fair enough, I'd want him gone as well... These days war is a lot more of a political issue. They treat it like a game centred around money rather than a real defense for the 'free' world. And hearing about all the civilian casualties, intelligence errors and POW mistreatment doesn't help.Quote:

And I really don't have anything against Americans in general. They're just doing what they think is right, like everyone else. The problem lies in the environment. Ignorance, fear of one another, and general selfishness are put through to americans by the media and the president, and it is manifested in society in general. Then they wonder why people want them dead :( It's pretty awful, but it's true. Americans, and any country, should have the right to step in to stop something happening, ONLY if it is actually happening though! The WMD thing in Iraq was obviously some kind of distraction for something else. Abu-Gharib...self-explanatory :( and the civilian casualties make me die a little inside. I cry when I hear about a kid having her arm blown off because grown-ups were working things out between themselves rationally to solve their differences...
To be honest I have no idea what the 'proper' way to deal with these people is - it just seems too obvious that there is a huge amount of miscommunication going on. The americans don't know what the middle-easterners want, and vice versa. I've heard so much talk about the importance of war and protection (and ultimately, dominance of an ideology), but not much about respecting one another as human beings or trying to figure out what makes terrorists terrorists, instead of just assuming it's better to kill them and continue the endless violence.
- His backing of the United states took a lot more guts than it would have to join the other countries that folded when the going got tough. The countries that we later found out that Iraq owed million of funds & oil too. EEEMMM? I wonder why they would not want to liberate Iraq.Quote:

You are right Awaken. I don't think any of us have the answer on the right way to deal with this situation.
I feel that because we have 24 hour news that the valid stories that are written about are obsurd. Do you have any idea of the atrosoties that have taken place in lets say, world war two. They did not have a news brief for every death that occured. Peolple get a false sense of the progress because good news doesn't get ratings.
I guess what I would like to know is what should each contry do.Everyone stay ou of everyones elses business?
Not at all. Countries should form bonds based on truths, human dignity, and cultural respect. A world run on profits creates a lot of greedy individuals who endlessly fight to a death which won't come. Violence will never solve violence, so it's time for someone to break the cycleQuote:

If you have a problem violence cant solve, you're not using enough of it.Quote:

Now there's a philosophy to live by :D
m/. :furious: .m/
I don't tink that you can inteligently argue with that Philosophy! :thumbup:Quote:

However I think there are cultural and religious gaps that people have been fighting over for years. And no one sems to beable to bridge tose gaps. Hopefully someday
It's all a matter of understanding what people want, before anything bad happens in the first place. There are a lot of stupid policies in the world which practically guarantee conflict...Quote:

I just want people to smile at one another, not seek to dominate.

The problem is that you are completley correct about the policies that cause conflick. That is in fact why nations like the USA have to step in from time to time. Otherwise these nations would gain power and use to the point that all we could do is be black mailed by them other than negotiate.
Hey Awaken. Are you annd I pretty much the only ones in this conversation as of late? With of coarsr CT's input.
It has been good debating with you. :-P
Haha, I guess you're right, we kind of owned the thread :)
It's been great debating with you as well. I know there's no perfect solution, and pussyfooting around hard issues doesn't always work...To be honest, I have no freakin idea who started what - I just wish both sides would wake up and help one another instead of killing each other! We could fix poverty and whatnot a lot quicker that way :)
Oh well, I'll just keep riding the spiral, see where it goes...I have enormous faith in humanity, despite my bleak outlook on our current situation :-P
I don't have it with me, but I once wrote something that said something like: "My faith lies not in humanity, but merely in it's potential"
I think that would pretty much describe my outlook on today's world. I have no faith in our current leaders or the directions we are taking, but I have faith in what we can accomplish if we truly desire to. We have the potential to end all of this. It's is just a matter of when...
Yeah, thats it :D
