Thread: The Great Conjunction of 2020 | Jupiter and Saturn Closest in 400 Years

Now, this sentimental holiday reunion is no Hallmark movie; if you miss it this year, don't expect to see it again next December. Astronomers say there won't be another great conjunction this close until 2080.

Dec 21st 2020, the real mayan end date!

Looking forward to this very much, it's not just the conjuction of saturn and jupiter there are other astrological things happening as well if you look it up it's very fascinating.

Saturn and Jupiter will appear to be so close together at night on 20th - 21st Dec, that it will look like a super bright star. In the past this has been called star of david or star of bethleham!

Hah. It's kinda a bummer, I am going to an International Dark Sky park with an Astro Pad for sky viewing on Dec. 29, a week after the event. If I had known about this... I would have made the trip sooner. Oh well (It's also a full moon. Clearly I did not think this out 6 months ago when I made the reservations. )

That will still be awesome to do regardless. Anyways, I heard this is end of 26,000 year cycle and the alignment will have effects on us lasting for up to 400 years.

Thanks. I'm going to make it into a virtual field trip for my students. Apparently, most of them have never been camping.

I would have no idea if the alignment of planets has any affect on us, but, if it does, I hope it's positive...

Yeah, I wonder that too. I wonder if there is some scientific research about how it actually affects us Physically and mentally, too. That would be interesting.

It would be likely that it will snow here... Hopefully, we see it without a computer and with our own eyes.

So I had a dream last night about this Dec 21, 2020 thing. Me and a friend were climbing up a big hill so we could have better vantage point, many people started gathering and we saw a tidal wave take out much of the lower land coming quite close to where we were. Next thing I know reality starts breaking down, the world is bit by bit disappearing until I'm floating in space amongst some of the clutter and wreckage. I see some aliens and space-craft around, and signal one to rescue me. But then, I started recreating my own world or reality, like I was forming a new dreamscape from a spectator viewpoint. The entire dream was non-lucid, pretty spooky having this dream only a couple days out from the date and also the fact I am catching up with my friend on that day, haha.

Watching this too.

Afaik, Astronomy and Astrology still have a hard scientific barrier between them.

That being said, the moon moves our entire planets water on a daily basis, the Earth's magnetosphere is directly correlated to how many solar particles reach the earth's surface. High-energy particles have lasting effects on psychology and physiology. Also, the shape of the heliopause(the sun's aura if you will) fluctuates and is influenced by the wind of interstellar gas caused by the Sun’s motion through space, which could of course also be affected by planetary fields positions/alignment.

So, who knows!?

I'm hopeful every shift we experience as a civilization is an emboldening one, here's to people looking up again!

I don't know about scientifically, but esoterically the planets mirror the chakra system. Maybe not in particular linear order but each planet is believed to correlate to a certain chakra. Usually with the chakra system, crystals correlate to the chakra according to colour. eg. green calcite = heart chakra, blue agate = throat chakra, amethyst = third eye, quartz = crown, etc. So it would be safe to assume, it's same thing for planets. The chakra system follows same format as colours in a rainbow = red (base), orange (sacral), yellow (solar plexus), green (heart), blue (throat), third eye (violet), clear/white (crown). Important note here is that there are actually more than 7 chakra's, most sources say 12 - 7 in the body, 5 outside (think 2 are below feet, 3 above head). Saturn is believed to carry energies dealing with discipline and direction, taking firm action, making swift decisions etc. Jupiter however, is all about expressing emotion. So the conjunction is then about discipline over emotions. Kind of like the Vulcans from Star trek maybe? learning to express or suppress emotion and control it more logically, without letting emotion cloud judgment or interfere with things, using emotion only when appropriate or directing it better. The process would also involve exploring our emotions more deeply so that we can develop better understanding of what exactly they are, and how they function. Which then would enable us to control them more appropriately and efficiently from a logical point of view. Emotion is also like an abbreviation for E-motion or Energy in motion, so that's a starting point at least - coming to understand emotion is your energy that has been put in motion.

Either way, these new energies will be affecting us for many years to come, will be interesting to see what changes happen next year, and what changes it makes (if any) to dreams.
It's funny how certain words can mean something, like emotion = energy in motion. Take a look at the word energy, when you say the word energy it sounds very similar to inner chi, funny that.

Apparently this conjunction between both gas giants on our terrestrial sky is the first one in 800 years. I will witness it with the naked eye. I can't use the telescope---it is still wrapped up. LOL.

The conjunction is all wrapped up now.. didn't realize how quickly the planets drift in an out of alignment. I didn't have a good view of it from my place due to light pollution, still nice to see some photo's and video's of it that were posted. The exact time of the conjunction at zero degree's was 13:33 UTC, half an hour either way and the planets were extremely close but not in perfect alignment until 13:33 UTC, and even then only briefly much like a solar eclipse, it's momentary there one minute and gone the next.

When I read this I was so disappointed because it was still light outside.. then I realized you're in Australia.

It's still going on here, although I think they are getting ready to set now. They didn't move at all to my eyes, so I am not sure about it being momentary. They seemed to stay in the same position the whole time. It didn't look like one star, though, to me. To my mom it did (she needs better glasses ). It looked like they were side by side. It was cool.

Moonage, sorry to disappoint you but it happened yesterday all over the world at same time (13:33 UTC Dec 21 2020) which was 9:33pm here in Perth. Florida time would have been 8:33am yesterday.

Don't worry though, the 2 planets will still appear over our skies for a while and appear to come very close but not actually align like that again for a long time.

Good for you that you saw the exact moment. I am happy with the view that I got, it was pretty cool. I am sad that others had clouds and were not able to see it at all. Maybe tonight it will still be pretty good.

Actually, I wasn't out there looking at that exact moment and there is a lot of light pollution and tall buildings, didn't know exactly where to look either so technically I didn't get to see it, oh well maybe in another 400 years time then?
