      A poll

I wanted to know what you would say your religious views are. I think this kind of data would be usefull in discussions.

HAHA. I remember when omnious deus tried to make a thread like this and everyone started arguing. His classifications were much different though and there were only 3.

I don't really identify with any religion, though I have intrests in zen buddhism, discordianism and thelema. I don't really adopt the views of these groups, but I do enjoy many of their practices.

      Also you forgot the Jews.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Jews go under other. If we get into an argument about anything, I'll ask an admin to lock the thread but keep the voting open. I just want to see the stats

Actually: Could I have an admin change Christian to Judea-Christian?

I know what agnostic means. I was asking about ignosticism, which Mario defined in an earlier post. I didn't really understand it though, so I asked.

I've often seen people spin the word god around so much that it eventually just became "the unknown" or the "infinite", the "totality" or something else suitable in that moment of time, then something completely different some other time. The fact is that many people haven't even structured their point of view at all, making it - their god for example - "impenetratable" for discussion due to it's lack of structure, logic and rationality. A side effect from indoctrination or general lack of critical thinkning in my opinion. On the other hand, the often undecisive nature of somebodies belief shouldn't just be ignored because of what it is. If some characteristic is presented, then it can be discussed, debunked etc. But yeah, until I have some standard, universal definition for god, I don't know how I can even start considering it from a personal, "quest for truth" point of view.
      That makes sense, thanks.

I'd say I'm agnostic on the whole god thing, but a lot of things I believe (or at least I believe are most probable, I can't say anything for sure till I get there) are commonly associated with Buddhism. Overall, though, I don't really see a need to restrict myself by categorizing my beliefs.

      Nearly 10% Christian…
That was a very good start prediction!

I think there may be some sort of God but not in any of the religion's point of view.

i'm neither religious nor am i atheist and not even agnostic
i don't believe in a god or any other being that controls the universe(and i'm not open to the idea),i don't believe life was a stupid accident either
i am spiritual though, but spirituality is not the same as religion(there is a connection)
i believe there is life after death and i believe life and indeed all existence has a purpose

Well I'm Atheist and I don't believe in an afterlife nor that existence has purpose, so I'm a bit of a Neo-Nihilist.

Atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive. You can be both. Gnosticism is concerned with knowledge and theism is concerned with the existence of a god. EVERYONE is either gnostic or agnostic when it comes to the existence of a god. In the same way everyone is either an atheist or a theist. If you believe in a god you are a theist, if you don't you're an atheist. If you KNOW something with 100% certainty then you are a gnostic. In other words, NO ONE is gnostic about this particular subject.

I think some religions think 99% belief is not total faith in that religion.

Also, athiesm is denying the existance of a God. Agonisticam is being not sure of a God.

Most people are athiests in someway (from somewhere I've read): Christians usually don't belive in Hindu gods, Muslims usually don't believe in Norse gods…

However, most people see that athiesm is the belief in no gods.

      Not quite.

You can be as agnostic as you please, but it is on a separate scale from theism. Atheism is the lack of belief in a god. An agnostic atheist is one who does not believe there is a god, but does not claim to know that there is not. By contrast, a gnostic atheist does not believe there is a god, and claims to know for a fact that there is no god. The same can be applied to the theism side of the world. I suppose you could be smack in the middle of the chart, and that's one confuzzling area to be at, if you aren't sure what you stand for. So yes, you can be unsure, but usually, people have some idea of what they believe in regards to a God. So, if you're saying that you genuinely don't know, then you don't really believe in any specific god, do you?
