A poll

I put other. I don't know what you'd call me. Although I have some doubts, I believe there is a God. I'm still trying to figuring out all of my believes and stuff. I have taken an interest in Buddhism though, and I think I'd like to become a Buddhist. :)

So a light agnostic buddhist?

I always found the Eastern religions fascinating, personally. Totally different mindset from Western religions and philosophies.

This very much so. I have a few Muslim and Buddhist friends and its very fun talking to them

I didn't read the entire thread so I don't know if this has been brought up, but Agnosticism is not a religious position, but rather a philosophical one. You can be either an atheist or theist and be an agnostic. Really, everyone is either an atheist or theist and agnostic or gnostic.

I, for instance, am an agnostic atheist (weak atheist, specifically).

Also, I've never heard it said Judea-Christian. I've only seen Judeo-Christian.

Strong Apathetic Atheist. The God of religion probably doesn't exist, if we were proven to exist it wouldn't change my opinion on religion or how much of a bastard he is.

I voted other. I'm a spiritual agnostic.

Hey guys........I am a Muslim by birth, and am proud of it. It's true that I was kinda disappointed to see less Muslims here, but what the heck. I accept and respect all your views even if they differ from mine, because criticism is not going to take us anywhere. Each and everyone of has different views and choices, so it's up to them, whatever they chose.

Well, that statistic really doesn't draw any conclusions. It could be that some members haven't seen this thread, or their could be a majority of non-Muslim lucid dreamers.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It's kinda true that the younger generation, not only in America, but all over the world are either too ignorant to follow the guidelines of Islam, or think that it has too much barriers for them. America and it's freedom tends to fascinate them, and they stray away. Something called temptation. :uhm: But that doesn't go for all of us, mind.

Other. I believe there is some form of a God, not any particular form of one that most people see today :/

I'd say I'm agnostic on the whole god thing, but a lot of things I believe (or at least I believe are most probable, I can't say anything for sure till I get there) are commonly associated with Buddhism. Overall, though, I don't really see a need to restrict myself by categorizing my beliefs.

Of course, that little matrix is ultimately as meaningless as any attempt by either 'side' to claim the middle ground. There are plenty of people who, on the basis of agnosticism and perhaps a degree of apathy, cannot come to a determination as to belief. Trying to force them to one side or the other of the vertical axis for purposes of categorization is meaningless, so the only term with any descriptive value for them is agnostic.

There are also those like myself with a gnostic neutrality toward belief--we have the means to know that both theism and atheism have equal truth potential, and are equally incomplete, being founded upon conceptualization. As such, we can be said to believe provisionally--a standpoint that looks like belief from the perspective of an atheist, and disbelief from the perspective of a theist.

Both points you mentioned exist in that space. 100% neutrality is in exactly the centre. If you have no opinion toward theism or atheism, you can exist anywhere on the xz-plane. You can "be sure" of your neutral views, and either care about it or not, or you can be "unsure" of your views and care about it or not. My point was simply the wrong use of the word "agnostic"; it seems it's true meaning is often misunderstood.

I was mainly taking issue with the last statement in the "Correct/incorrect" image, that "you either believe or do not."

Needs a planar grid to make sense of it all. Took me about 20 seconds to realize it was supposed to be 3d instead of meaning that only gnostic atheists can be fanatics. Get to work!
