Thread: WTB Clarification

When I was a child my parents used to send me to Sunday school every week. It was an evengelical class, what we call "happy clappy" in the UK.

It was kind of fun. I went for a few years from 6 or so until I left at 8. They told stories, we could draw pictures, they had fuzzy felt bible scenes, we sang happy clappy songs, you get the picture.

For my 8th birthday I got a book called "Life Before Man". It was my prized possession. I was crazy about dinosaurs - I got my folks to take me to the dinosaur hall at the famous Museam of Natural History in london just about every school holiday. I had books, models, posters, t-shirts, the works.

SO I did like all kids do. I took my wonderful book to Sunday School after my 8th birthday to show the preist.

He said "everything in this book is lies, there were no dinosaurs". I was surprised and upset - I even had my own small fossil collection at home - and told him I had seen the dinosaur bones and had my own fossils.

He said "the bones are not real - they are fakes created by scientists and other non-beleivers to trick the faithful".

We argued more, he became irate and told me that the whole creation of the world was exactly as per the bible, adam and eve, the great flood, everything - therefore no dinosaurs or millions of years old fossil records can be true.

I left crying. I refused to go back. My parents were surprised at how upset I was. After missing a few weeks the preist came round, my parents backed me and I never went back.

At the age of 8 I went from being a little kid who beleived that adults were wise and clever to suddenly understanding that adults can be stupid, liers, or insane.

I learned to dispise religion.

In later years I became very angry that a religious person should be able to fill a childs head with their BS fantasy land.

In your case its even worse - the teacher would appear to not even know their subject. Was it a public school?? - I though OZ was like the UK and they cant teach the bibble in junior school.

Obviously the priest hasn't read the Bible from cover to cover, it does mention dinosaurs but as "leviathans" . It's pretty sad he got mad at a child.

And actually it's Private school so it's even worse. And I don't really live in Australia

Not in public schools, but private schools are a different story. Assuming we're talking about the U.S.
