      All aboard the Atheist bus

I think it's an cool initiative. Plus, Ariane Sherine is awesome: cute and Atheist, it's win-win.

I only wish it didn't happen just in the UK.
      - Are you an idiot?
      - No sir, I'm a dreamer.

Of course anybody becomes insecure when you tell them what they believe is not true, it threatens Theist and Atheist alike. The proof of this is in countless arguements between both of the sides. I realize speculation on these boards is one thing, but as for persuasion on bus signs...

Can someone clarify with me why Atheists and Theist do such things as argue? What objective do we hope to accomplish, even on small message boards? Aren't we all insecure about the things we believe in?

Of course you could say the Atheist wishes to "straighten" the world out with all the Islamic terrorism in God's name. But why do it here in the U.S.? Or Britain? Or is it just simply to "educate" others about what is ridiculous to believe in?

On the Theist side, a great deal of belief in God is influenced by the existence of a place of punishment, Hell. Like Atheists the Theist also wishes to straighten out the opposing party, possibly for that party's well being, or the confirmation of their own beliefs.

Because if you were in a room with no lights in it, wouldn't it annoy the hell out of you if there were other people in the room with you who were telling you that there really is a light and they could see perfectly fine, and then go on to 'prove' it by pretending to read a book and ending up having to ad lib the whole thing because it's fucking dark in there, and no matter what you said, they would insist that there was a light, and that they could see.

Oh, and fundamentalists and their horribly inacurrate view of the universe.

If someone told me I was wrong, however, and then proceeded to prove it empiricly, then obviously I would believe them. But no one has, because there is no light in the room, and they can't read the fucking book :/

      Apples and Oranges.

P.S. The bible got terrible reviews.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Why do it in the U.S.? Because its a huge problem in the U.S.

We've got loonies who think the earth is 6000 years old and they try to push this crap into public schools as actual fact! Then they also say "evolution is false! Give ID equal time!" and try to put that in schools too.

Also because we've got people banning human rights and trying to stop stem-cell research, which just ends up in more people dying.

It's such a big problem because we have people deliberately attempting to make the U.S. fall even further behind in science, actively promoting the removal of basic human rights, and restricting research that could save the lives of millions.

I don't think we need it. I'm not sure if it was necessary where they are running right now (haven't some people in other countries copied?). I wouldn't be apposed to it if someone wanted to put them up. However, while it is probably ok to do in the UK, I don't think something like that would go over easy in America. Personally I like the idea because it is funny, but still it really wouldn't really do anything beneficial in America I don't think. Worst case scenario some crazy believer gets angry and attacks the bus/passengers/driver.

If someone can provide a persuasive argument for why the benefits would out weigh the detriments of putting up a bus in the U.S. I'm willing to listen. You could even say that a certain state or city is better to run them in than just any where. But until someone can explain to me why the positives out weigh the negatives in the U.S. I'm not going to go out of my way to support the idea.

      Totally agree!
Was so glad to see it the other day here in the UK!

The ironic thing was, in that same day... walking into town... I got stopped by 2 Hare Krishnas, got shouted at by 4 Christians, saw several posters for churches...

So nice to have a bit of sense in all this madness.

Jesus, what a subject change. What planet did you just come from? Get with the program and make sure you are in the right thread.
