      All aboard the Atheist bus

I think it's an cool initiative. Plus, Ariane Sherine is awesome: cute and Atheist, it's win-win.

I only wish it didn't happen just in the UK.

Of course anybody becomes insecure when you tell them what they believe is not true, it threatens Theist and Atheist alike. The proof of this is in countless arguements between both of the sides. I realize speculation on these boards is one thing, but as for persuasion on bus signs...

Can someone clarify with me why Atheists and Theist do such things as argue? What objective do we hope to accomplish, even on small message boards? Aren't we all insecure about the things we believe in?

Of course you could say the Atheist wishes to "straighten" the world out with all the Islamic terrorism in God's name. But why do it here in the U.S.? Or Britain? Or is it just simply to "educate" others about what is ridiculous to believe in?

On the Theist side, a great deal of belief in God is influenced by the existence of a place of punishment, Hell. Like Atheists the Theist also wishes to straighten out the opposing party, possibly for that party's well being, or the confirmation of their own beliefs.

Because if you were in a room with no lights in it, wouldn't it annoy the hell out of you if there were other people in the room with you who were telling you that there really is a light and they could see perfectly fine, and then go on to 'prove' it by pretending to read a book and ending up having to ad lib the whole thing because it's fucking dark in there, and no matter what you said, they would insist that there was a light, and that they could see.

Oh, and fundamentalists and their horribly inacurrate view of the universe.

If someone told me I was wrong, however, and then proceeded to prove it empiricly, then obviously I would believe them. But no one has, because there is no light in the room, and they can't read the fucking book :/

      Apples and Oranges.

P.S. The bible got terrible reviews.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

Are you joking? I doubt he had to drive very far to get there. It wasn't like it happened in Spain and he had to take a flight to say hey look at this! All he did was show up...does that mean that the girl who put the sign up is making an ass of herself as well?

No, but I think parading around on an "atheist bus" makes you an ass; in the same way gay people make asses of themselves when they parade around town on gay pride day. Militant atheists (Anything Militant) are annoying, even more annoying than the Christians that knock on your door and ask a few questions in my opinion. I consider myself an atheist in a general sense, but I don't see the need to barrage people with the theory of evolution, big bang theory and whatever other logical reasoning they can think of that would imply that "there is probably no god".

They don't realize that they(Militant Atheists) are becoming what they are opposed to. If Dawkins decided to write "The Atheists Bible" I bet you a ton of assholes would buy it and would follow it as dogmatically as any other holy book.

Do you know why Dawkins is outspoken? Because his primary job isn't being an atheist, its being an Ethologist and EVOLUTIONARY biologist. Why is he "barraging people with the theory of evolution?" Because that is actually his job. To dispel myths about evolution, and to remove ignorant lies from being accepted as fact. It isn't "barraging" people with evolution when it is your job to talk about evolution.

The reason this particular person put up that sign was because she was tired of being told that she needed to conform to some random religious ideology.

I wonder how much of an ass someone would be if they put up a counter response to the claim that "niggers deserve to die" by saying "race doesn't matter."

I'm sure you're too retarded to see the argument anyway. Let me clarify it for you.

You don't find it disturbing that people put up signs like "Jesus died for your sins" which implies people burn in hell for not being Christians? Especially when the site they link you to says that you will burn in hell if you aren't a christian?

Is it being such an ass to say, your religion (race) doesn't matter, and there is certainly no evidence that you will, or even deserve to, burn in hell (be punished, like being killed AKA deserve to die) for it?

There is little difference between saying you deserve to go to hell for not being a christian and you deserve to burn in hell for not being a specific race, well except for perhaps the fact that religion isn't genetic, though most people who are religious wind up being whatever religion they were told to be by their parents.

Actually I can see grasshoppa's point. It can definitely be annoying to see people parading their ideas all over the place, like the gay pride parades as an example...

But then again if we didn't have gay pride parades, would our society be considerably less tolerant today? I think so. As much as these kinds of demonstrations can sometimes be annoying, they do help to bring issues to people's attention.

So in the end I see what you are saying, but I don't think there's an alternative way that's as effective.

Race is not a choice. Belief is not a choice.

Acting on belief is a choice.

The concept of a personal God is the most retarded thing ever invented.

But you know what's even more retarded? Basing your belief on denying the most retarded thing ever invented and calling yourself accordingly... an atheist.

I wonder, whats next, people are going to call themselves anti-faries and are going to hop on the anti-fairy bus? LOL

The fairies thing would be a legitimate example if there were millions, or billions, of people in this world believing in them and doing stupid things based on what they think the fairies want from them.

If god was as benign as a fucking fairy, we wouldn't need to call ourselves atheists and would just move on with our lives. Until then... all aboard the bus, I guess.

Just because half the world is insane doesn't mean you have to join into the insanity... both atheists and most theists are either accepting or denying some retarded concept. Theres nothing intelligent going on here at all. Instead of denying some retarded concept it would be much more interesting if you started believing in an intelligent concept and spread the word... atheism isn't going anywhere.

I also think it's very funny how atheists, out of all people, claim to be experts on God. If you argue with them, they always claim they are the only ones who know who or what God is. I mean, you have to know X before you can decide weather X exists or not right?

It's like an anti-scientist claiming to be an expert on science. You can't possibly contradict yourself more than this. That is what atheism is for you, a huge contradiction. Denying that very thing which they don't know anything about.
