Christianity - Jesus taught, apostles documented, but from there the scriptures have been distorted through the church, translation, etc.

Actually the word death is normally taken to obviously mean 'death'. You know how to speak, yes?

It seems to be personified through "his" and "shivered", relating to the individual soul.

It's not that there is no ego, but that we realize we are not the ego. The "I" comes from a greater identity, which knows exactly what it is. While we identify with the ego, we do not understand life, we do not know "who" we are.
