I am atheist because I was raised a hardcore chrisitian, and I saw the exclusionary view that they proposed. I also researched evil things like evolution and abiogenesis, and saw that it had much more evidence to back it up then religion. Much more, but that's it in a nutshell.

Obviously I was referring to ego-death, so I can't "kill myself". You know about the ego, yes?

      rofl

Christianity - Jesus taught, apostles documented, but from there the scriptures have been distorted through the church, translation, etc.

Actually the word death is normally taken to obviously mean 'death'. You know how to speak, yes?

If there is no ego then why not kill yourself?

What do you mean there is no ego? What's the point of killing yourself?

The whole point of ego death is when you realise there is no ego and your consciousness is all just a part of a universal whole.

Then you go ahead and let the "universal whole" do whatever they want to you, I will continue to be separate and look out for myself.

I have a question, is saying "his soul shivered" and example of personification?

It seems to be personified through "his" and "shivered", relating to the individual soul.

It's not that there is no ego, but that we realize we are not the ego. The "I" comes from a greater identity, which knows exactly what it is. While we identify with the ego, we do not understand life, we do not know "who" we are.
