Thread: Joel Osteen

Yup, I've heard of the guy and he's a scam artist. 43 Million a year in tithes and another 36 Million a year from mailed in donations, not bad for a person who talks about almost everything except God. I've actually never seen the Guy talk about God not even once in his sermons. He's just another megachurch controlling bonehead with a PH.D in Mass Confusion. But that's just my opinion.

oh you know he does, big houses, exotic cars, long vacations, etc. etc.

My mom likes this guy a lot for some reason. She is a very hardcore Christian.

Why do you think he is a child molester? I think his wife though, she is gonna go to jail for attacking a flight attendant.

Yup it's crazy right? As far as what he's doing with all that money, I know a while back he paid the city of Houston a little over one hundred million to remodel the old Houston Rockets NBA center, he has leased it for the next 30 years to hold his sermons. Of course that doesn't put much of a dent in his pocket especially when you consider the millions he also recieving from his books.

Jeez. And all he does is preach that the bracelet you lost and then found is the WORK OF GOD. No joke - just heard him say that tonight.

Oh and Julian, he just looks sinister. I bet he's one of the least virtuous Christians around.

I am not particular fond of prosperity gospel Christians like Joel Osteen. Christianity + money seems to be the worst combination there is. That is why there are genocides taking place of Indians in South America, the Christian missionaries (usually from US or Europe) there machine gun natives to death or help groups do it to help corporate interests in that region. So Joel Osteen is a no-go for me, the Christian church and money power are so closely related and help them do evil things. Joel Osteen is preaching a money-based gospel I think that gives a bad impression on me too.

But I do think it is impossible to just look at a person and think he's a pedophile. One thing I think I learned from psychology are that sexual predators of many types though, are seemingly very attractive, they have the power to truely be charismatic and they attract women or others to them. A predator can look into a crowd of 100,000 people, and then his eyes and attention will focus on the person who is most vulnerable to him.

I agree with what you said, Julian. He's more interested in telling people what they want to hear. I don't have anything against wealth or the wealthy, but when people turn money-making into a religious experience, I find a problem with that.

I'm going to have to become a preacher...who wants to join me and become millionairs?

I agree with Rai Saix. Anyone who preaches and stuff on TV seems completely untrustworthy and just a scam artist to me. Honestly, anyone who has any real intent on preaching the word of God, would probably prefer to do so in a much more humble manner, like in a church, that's not on television. It just seems really vain to me, and goes against what the church should really stand for.... Not that I really believe in Christianity, but for arguements sake anyway.

This is exactly what I think. So... why do so many people like him?? I can't understand it.. how did he gain so many supporters?

Yeah, and faith is something that when people have invested in it, they're willing to believe anything. I mean, that's the whole point of faith. The people who put their faith into things like this, think that there's no possible way it could be fake, because it's on TV, there's lots of people there, and he's a religious man, he would never scam etc, therefore he must be legit and we must send money to him for our salvation. So basically, yeah, they're dumb.

yeah i'm a christian but i don't like them doing it for money and all that jazz, another thing that's dumb is whoever that guy is that pushes peoples' heads back and is like "YOU'RE HEALED!" lol, it may be the same guy, i don't know for sure
