Probably blown out of proportion. It's what the media is for.

Its almost as if the media wants a war between islam and the people.
well i meant the UK people...whoops
*singing* Let my people gooooo...
.................IF YOU DON'T LIKE ENGLAND GTFO!!! G...T...F..O!!!!!
i swear we keep bending over backwards for these people. We're scaring to stop their protests full of Muslims screaming " burn england, bomb england, kill the english, spread their limbs everywhere" etc. Seriously how can you go protesting like that when YOUR the one choosing to live in the Western World. Those people who were scouting for the tube train bombs went to Starbucks or something first.
If they hate the West so much they should go back to their country of origin. I have an idea, we deport all the ones who protest against us and cut ALL ties with their countries, no trade, no buying their exports etc. They hate us so much, we are infidels etc, i'd assume they would hate to trade with us and our dirty hands. So let's build walls around their countries so they don;t have to look at how horrible we are and just leave them for 1000 years. We'll have our spaceships cures for almost all disease etc. They'll kill have their women in headdresses, living in poor conditions, fighting over crap etc. Hmph we'll see who is so superior, will Allah give them technology or is the evil West that help them even survive.
Wow that just makes me angry!!!!!! I WANT PUPPIES ON MY POSTERS!
So when you Brits say this paper is a "tabloid", is that equivalent to the American tabloids with "Opera and Doctor Phil having an affair!" and "Batboy terrorizes New York!" as headlines?
there are plenty of muslims out there who are going to see this picture and think..."awww, what a cute puppy."
the real problem is something else all together
He doesn't seem to know how to keep the moral highground. The reason our country is better than theirs is that we offer these civil liberties to all, where many of their countries do not. If we take away peoples right to protest we usurp our own value system, our own principles, by cowering to theirs in cheap vengeance. Surely then this is no way to proceed. (That is why president Ahmidinejad, can visit Colombia University, and Ground Zero; that is why Muslims can protest).
Its shit, yes, full of cynical crap. A tabloid I believe.
I find it hard to get behind this "take back our country" and "Britain for the British" mentality.
Why are you all getting so worked up? This story says that shop keepers are refusing to display an image in their own private property because for some stupid reason they find it offensive.
It seems to me that shopkeepers are within their rights to decide what they display in their own shops.
The story doesn't say that the shopkeepers themselves find it offensive but that "some" are taking it down [i.e. possibly Non-Muslims]. The sentences are ambiguous. But I might be wrong. I don't know "Dundee". Do they have like a huge Muslim population?
On top of that, it seems to me they're pulling the WHOLE advert. It goes far beyond "private property rights". A government institution is being bullied by a bunch of intolerant nuts and they go with it. Sure, nobody's forced to put up something in their shops. That's no reason to go completely anal over it and complain. Just throw it in the trash and get over it already.
As for "Britain for the British", I expect immigrants to adapt to local culture and bring positive aspects of their culture with them (food, art, music or whatever). But not the ignorant backwards stupid bullcrap. That's what I do when I go to another country. That's what EVERY sensible person does who's guest in another country. If I'm in Egypt and I'm supposed to not show my lower legs, that's FINE, I won't do it. I can't just go there half naked and say "Well, I find it offensive you would tell me how to dress." Similarly, I don't go to Japan and request silverware when there's perfectly decent chopsticks that I'm simply expected to eat with. And that's just mundane aspects. But this stuff is about freedom to do something without getting pissed on by a bunch of bullies. It has political relevance, unlike the choice of clothes. There's no point in letting a community grow that essentially seeks to impose their nonsensical stone age bullcrap culture onto the region with no regards to the actual culture of that area.
Again, if I'd go to Pakistan to start my "private property" gay porn and sex toy store, I don't think they'd approve. Similarly, I don't approve if they come to my country and cause a big uproar about stupid shit like this. Progressiveness and this sort of intolerance are mutually exclusive. If people wanna go to Europe, that's fine, but not if they can't adopt a modern Western attitude about things.
This is the problem with a lot of Daily Mail stories. For all we know, these posters were taken down by fringe nutjobs who just don't like the police and someone got the wrong end of the stick. Its important to bare in mind that the story may not be as it is shown.
Pulling adverts that have been unsuccessful and replacing them with more effective advertisements is fairly traditional.
The British Muslim community is hardly "a guest in this country". Many Muslims in Britain have been in this country for decades, many are even third generation British citizens. I see your point about bringing positive aspects of one's own culture to the mix while keeping the less tolerant aspects within your own group. Its a difficult but important thing we need to do in Britain.Quote:

In some ways, I agree with your point here. I want to live in a country where differences of opinion and differing needs are respected. Admittedly, Islam as a religion is inherently against things I have no problem with. I guess this is one of those situations where I don't agree with Muslim fundamentalists, but I believe whole-heartedly in their right to express their own opinions. Even if this means complaining about a picture of a puppy.Quote:

Many Muslims are not from Pakistan. Many Muslims are from Britain. This country belongs to all of us. No one faction within it should have the right to tell any other group that legally lives here that they should leave.Quote:

Religion or the Islam isn't ridiclous. Those particular individuals are just plain retarded. Does religion make people retarded? I doubt it, since a lot of scientists who made the foundation of our current science were religious, so I don't think it really matters much.
Lol yeah, most likely, it was just one crazy shopkeeper who didn't approve, and now suddenly, all the muslims all over the world hate cute puppies... =O But the media are just people like you and me, the guy who made that article just doesn't really like the islam and prefers to not have muslims in his country. He's just part of the big anti-islam hype that the western world is obsessed with right now.
lol, but Jews didn't get angry when 'Babe' came out.

But it screwed up and did not cover itself from the neck down, so it had to be put to sleep by stoning.
