That was the Catholic Church seeking to suppress Mary's importance in Jesus' life. The Catholic church back peddled years ago and said that Mary was not in fact a prostitute. To make this perfectly clear, they also had her declared a saint.

I wouldn't of cared if he fucked women while here. If anything he would have been seen as more relateable by human standards than some pompous "I can't do wrong" figure of worship.
