The story of Adam and Eve

      I am just curious

How do you view the story of Adam and Eve? the characters of each?

Real flesh and blood individuals? or a metaphorical representation of something else?

      Explain

It's a good lesson on how you have to choose between being naked and eating fruit God left out for you to not eat. If you eat such fruit, you have to put your clothes on. Then the billions of people who live after you will be punished for the actions of somebody most of them think never existed, and the creator of existence will have to have himself tortured back to home in the form of his son. Adam should have seen it coming.
      You are dreaming right now.

Well Adam didn't know that his wife was going to turn into uberbitch and give him the bad fruit. Moral of the story, women suck and nudity is sinful after you've eaten fruit......

It's a shitty story, just as Genesis. Neither informative nor entertaining.

I look at it as metaphorical.

Any thoughts as to in what way? What is this speaking of in a metaphorical sense?

That's funny you said "the creator of existence will have himself tortured back to home in the form of his son." It's a wonder why you're an Athiest, It seems that there are some misinterpetation there on your part. Usually happens due to lack of knowledge of the scriptures.

That's mighty brave of you to tell me my interpretion is wrong without clarifying what specifically is incorrect or what the correct interpretion should be. Nice work.

creator of existence (except maybe himself): God

God's home: Heaven, where Jesus went after the resurrection, though he did swing out of the way to Hell momentarily on the trip back home.

      God's son/self: Jesus

torture: what happened to Jesus before he was "killed"

Which of those is incorrect? Explain yourself.

Guess what UM? IT'S GO TIME!

It's actually pretty simple. The creator of existence and the Son are two different entities. Also Jesus didn't swing by Hell at least not the kind of Hell you're thinking of.

      *Butts in*

What hell are you thinking of? My interpatation of it is that he went down to hell to allow the people who have sinned previously a place in heaven if they so choosed.

Jesus and God are the same guy but also father and son. Haven't you ever heard of the trinity?

So, you think Christianity is a polytheistic religion?

Also, Catholics and Episcopalians have that stuff they say at every service. It has been a while, but it goes something like, "He was crucified by Pontius Pilate. He died and was buried. On the third day, he rose. He ascended into Hell and blah blah judge the living and the dead blah blah and life everlasting." I am not sure if it comes straight from the Bible. It is said over and over in the grave yard acid trip scene in Easy Rider.

By the way, the dark headed lady in that scene sang the 80's hit "Mickey".

I thought the moral of adam and eve was don't trust talking snakes.
      Xaqaria
The planet Earth exhibits all of these properties and therefore can be considered alive and its own single organism by the scientific definition.
      7. Reproduction: The ability to produce new organisms.
does the planet Earth reproduce, well no unless you count the moon.

I am not enthralled to read this thread; has anyone pointed out that god lied?

God told them that if the ate the fruit that they would die; Satan tells them god is lying, that they will have knowledge if they eat the fruit.

      And you know what happens?

      They eat the fruit and--

      1. Do not die
      2. Have knowledge
      3. Are banished from the garden, and have all their offspring royally punished forever to boot!

Then, a few thousand years later...

God sends his "son" (Himself) in a human, to sacrifice himself, to himself, to allow himself to rewrite a rule that he himself wrote; to keep himself from sending you to hell!

      And then guess what?

      1. The world still has the EXACT same problems plus one more religion!
      2. You can STILL get sent to hell!
      3. No one seems to mind the fact that they were commanded by a divine creature to attend his "house" (Where he is never present()) and telepathically tell a zombie (In the process of "worshipping" him) that they love him!

      Major "WTF"
