This has been my favorite of the bunch so far, lol. I must have heard that so many times..
~
That took me like 1 minute to figure out. I didn't really know whether to laugh at the cartoon or to cry at my inadequacy. Still glad I got it, though.
I think "freedom of religion" should be taken out of the law. It doesn't make any sense. It's the one phrase that makes religious people think they are entitled to believe in nonsense and stick to it despite reasonable criticism. Really, what's the point? Call it "freedom of thought" or "freedom to gather with like-minded people" and I'd be much happier. Even though it would be incredibly superfluous since the government neither can nor wants to control our thoughts.
"Freedom of religion" also asserts that once a religion proposes things that are in contrast to common sense, moral standards or even the law, this is somehow acceptable. It is not.
I think Romney actually said that.
so thats what jesus really looked like...
I HAVE to bump this thread because someone said this in a TV debate about religion. Can't stop laughing yet... :D

P.S. Sam Harris is my God.
I'm not all that familiar with Sam Harris. I wonder if his skills of debate are anywhere near as good as Richard Dawkin's? :P
I <3 Sam Harris a little more for his calm style of discourse and humor. Also, he talk about spirituality and he's a meditator which is a doubleplus in representing atheism. I wuv his precise use of language. I don't know why, but I always lie in tears after seeing him debate.

Sam Harris is unbelievable. He is by far the best of the 4 horsemen, Dawkins in a close second. He is calm, collected, and so utterly, 100%, and frustratingly (if you are on the opposing side) rational. Watch his debate with a Rabbi: http://www.jewishtvnetwork.com/?bcpi...tid=1329234778
Thanks for the links!! Off to watch them now. That's awesome that Harris is so good in your guys' eyes. I was getting a little worried that Dawkins might be the only one calm and articulate enough for the job... :paranoid:
Mes, you should watch The Four Horsemen: Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens. There's a video of a two hour conversation between the four of them. They're all great; I love them.
Awesome! I'll do that. Thus far I've watched some Harris and some Hitchens and pretty much everything there is to see with Dawkins. Dennett is next! Woot.
It's a bit annoying though to hear pretty much the same arguments coming from the theists' side. I can only imagine how annoying it must be for them. :P
That is an excellent debate. I did not watch the whole thing, but I plan to. I think Sam Harris is the best arguer of the atheist side I have ever come across, and the rabbi he was debating was extremely good at arguing his side. It is not the typical debate where the religious person throws a crazy bomb and then dodges for the next five minutes. That is actually a real debate. I did not see them get into whether God exists, but they talked a lot about the scientific nature or lack of it regarding belief in God and whether religion is overall good for the world, which is something I have mixed feelings about. I love seeing a good debate, which is something most religious people are unfortunately not capable of offering. That rabbi is. I love seeing that.
I didn't see that you had recommended the Four Horsemen already. Dawkins will always be the best to me, just because I've loved him for so long. Harris is great, but I like Hichens too; partially for his personality, but he's got a lot of good stuff to say, even if I don't always agree with his politics. Dennett I don't know that much about, but I've got him in my stack to read. So much atheist material now! It's great.
