ego death from alcohol?

Has anyone ever gotten so drunk they had ego death? I am pretty sure i did on new years. I drank maybe a 12 pack, that alone will get my very very drunk but on top of that had countless shots of random stuff...the mix did not work out very well...i heard i fell down some steps and some other crazy shit
But on the way home, ( i was not driving, my driver was sober )i just remember everything going black and telling myself i was dead and it was alright....this was the only thing in the last 3 hours of the night i remember

anyone else had ego death from alcohol or from anything?

i thought ego death was when you lose the confines of your self and just merge with the universe. that sounds more like passing out.

it is hard to explain ego death...for all i know i didnt have it but the feeling i had was way different than passing out. Maybe i didnt have it but what i did feel had some spiritual expression in it.
I felt like in the time i was blacked out i talked to god. I just remember saying that to myself that i had just talked to god

But you know it's all in your mind right?

I was referring to him talking to God.

This is not ego death. I've experienced ego death many times. It just sounds like you were extremely messed up and passed out...

I would agree it's not ego death, which is more like reaching a state of mind where the fiction of self in no longer supportable, but still sounds like an unusual drunken experience. When people feed me shots, I usually just wake up with my feet on the floor and my coat still on :D

Also, based on what people tell me, it's more like awareness ceases but you still act like yourself, whereas with ego death awareness continues but you cease to be anyone.

I have always wondered about something you just said....When we are all blackout drunk who is in charge of our bodies
I know it is US but what part of our mind is going...is everything still going right just memory is gone? ( yes i know that when you drink the feeling of getting drunk is your brain shutting down )

lol First time I've heard of someone talk to God through the medium of being wasted.

Seriously, I wouldn't know either way. I can never get to that point because my stomach rejects the vile poison I'm forcing it to drink way before I black-out.

It really seems like you just stop making memories, while other functions proceed more or less normally (but drunk). It's still you, to the extent that it ever is, but you'll never remember it. Last time this happened to me, I'm told I was playing mind games with this ex-con biker dude at the bar, totally spinning his head.

It's spooky, and dangerous. Who knows what's your decision making process in that state?

Sounds like a black-out, more or less.

I have not encountered "ego-death" and cannot find it my archives or journals. What is it?

I even did a quick skim over Jung and Freud documents, Psychology and Philosophy dictionaries, and could not find anything about "ego-death".

I hate to jump to conclusions, but sounds like pseudoscience...? (I say this because I did a quick google and it said stuff about "white light" and "beyond death" etc.)

Ego Loss, Ego Death, or Ego Disintegration are not terribly scientific terms, no. They're mainly used among psychedelic drug users to reference a state where you have no self, no functional ego. It somewhat references the "no self" doctrine of Buddhism, but of course a meditator comes to the experience gradually and with preparation, whereas the psychedelic version is sudden and often more of a breakdown than a letting go.

Some matters fuzzying this discussion:

1. "ego death" is an uncommon and loaded term. More often you hear "ego loss" or "ego disintegration."

2. I've never heard of alcohol inducing ego loss, and don't think it's the case here.

I've never experienced ego loss from a drug state, but I have experienced openings of egolessness via meditation and mindfulness training, so I can only extrapolate from those experiences, non-ego-loss trips, and hearsay.

so i talked to my friends, they say i fell down a flieght of stair after smoking weed...then on the way to the car i laid down in the street and said i was too tired to move...they gt the car and came to me and dragged me in the car, then in the ca i was passed out......i believe in god and i think maybe he just heped me through the moment??
