Some christians believe the earth is 12000 years old because they count the generations it takes to get from Jesus to Abraham or something like that

Well, I was saying that faith was belief despite evidence to the contrary.

There are fossils and geological evidence showing that the earth is very old, yet some people, despite the existence of that evidence, believe that the earth is young.

I guess there are lots of other examples but that's the first one I thought of.

I think that this belief is faith not because there is evidence against it, but because there is no evidence in favor of it.

If two ideas have supporting evidence, then you can believe in the best-supported one without using faith.

I said faith is belief despite evidence to the contrary, you said faith is belief without supporting evidence.

Some people believe that the earth is very young, despite evidence that it is very old.

It is also true that there is no evidence supporting a young earth, but I don't think you can deny that there is also evidence to the contrary.

For the record, I'm a christian and I also doubt your story. Of course I believe God exists, but I don't think this dream of yours actually proves anything.

Do you really think that that proves God's existence?

      Why?

To me it sounds like you're either making this up, you're a Bible thumper super-Christian, or the false memory is right.

This guy reminds me of Beanhole from the "god was watching me eat cereal" thread.

anywho Off topic, but I was on Yahoo! Answers and someone asked why people believe in God/Jesus, and the answer someone gave was

Well the name of Jesus has been around for 2,000 years and Islam, and Jews know about the Jesus of Christianity. That is in the history books.

Please just use common sense. Jerusalem exists, Bethlehem, Nazareth. Rome was a world empire in the day. The Bible exists. Church's exist because of Jesus.
      lmffao use common sense.

Ok, I have to reply to this thread... cause I also have had dreams similar to yours.

Also I must agree with onu's, I think he's got it right.

I've had more dreams about bible crap than I'll ever care to remember. I'd tell my dream to some friends of mine who are bible thumpers and they would remind me of the book of Daniels and Isah and revelations and Esikil, etc.

To me all this is is a relation to the over all human experiance of haveing been raised in an overly dogmatinc environment. I also see it as a meer relation to that human exsperiance and not that I saw god the future or the devil.

I'm agnostic... you see I can admit that I don't know, and I believe that no one knows what realy is. But I do believe that science has done much more to discover truth than the restricting confines of dogmatic religion who is out more for control trhough fear that proof.

ps sorry for the spelling I'm in a hurry.
