It has astrological signifiance, there are many other dieties with the same story as Jesus including the virigin birth (the mothers name generally starts with M as well.)
false~!
It may or may not be false..
A) I dont know about then, but currently in that part of the world a woman's virginity depends on the presence of an intact hymen. Even if it ruptures due to a fall she is no longer considered a virgin. If she fails to bleed upon consumation of her marriage, she faces divorce-at least in the muslim crowd. However, there are cases- i dont know how common or rare this is-where a woman's hymen is so highly elastic that it doesnt rupture during sex- some women have had fully intact hymens right thru to delivery of her 1st child. She could have had sex, gotten pregnant, but been found to have an intact hyman- imagine the midwives' surprise.
B) I cant remember exactly what i heard, but i saw a documentary on Discovery channel or TLC that was examining this case. they said something about in EXTREMELY RARE intances a woman has spontaneously begun gestating without fertilization by any sperm-I think though it mentioned something about hermaphroditsm. It also spoke of a species of small lizard in which no males exist. The females lay their eggs, following sexual-type stimulation from another female, and once the egg is laid begins to develop of its own accord.
It is no mystery that animals have been known to spontaneosly give birth. A shark did so just last year-or was it earlier this year, cant remember.
However, people tend to wanna make up some divine way in which a person of holy/sacred significance was born,a sort of way to further widen the gap btwn said person and us ''ordinary'' people.
Perhaps the Christians were merely borrowing from the Greeks' tales of women who became impregnated by the god Zeus.
In conclusion: A virgin birth is possible, but may or may not have been in Mary's case.
The prudes of 0bc.
So ironic, they still hold such a false belief today.
The word was mistranslated; originally it was the word for "young woman". So you don't really need a miracle to explain it. End of mystery.
How could people take the adultery/fidelity commandments seriously if word got out that Mary was a cheating hoebag? :D
The mother of the Savior was a whore. What has the world succomed to? :(
Seriously, though. Mary wasn't Virgin in the sense she had never had sex. She was a female under 14. 14. Joseph was 30, 30. So, what happened?
Whilst waiting for Joseph to gt his act together, she gets knocked up, and uses the "Holy Spirit" as an excuse. Result? Xianity.
First off, I am responding to the original post, without reading anything that comes after. The christian religion has very good rules to live by. Jesus was a pretty kickass guy, He had many good things to say. How does that compare to the virgin birth? Well it's pretty much a given that scientifially(sp?) you cannot give birth if you are a virgin.....
The reason for this inquiry is a simple one.
i was raised in a Christian home, but one where there was leeway to see the man made changes in the religion as time proceeds, and to be able to not blindly follow doctirnes or dogmas.
After taking in teachings as Advaita, the Kaballah, Sufism, Gnosis, and Dzogchen, the notion arises that "virgin birth " may indeed not apply to the material as the Christian "religion" has so deemed.
It would seem that it is more so likely that the "virgin birth" would refer rather to Christ being born into the material realm "fully and completely Self realized" . A fully Enlightened being from the start with no need for "ensemination" by the teachings existing in the world so as to grow into Realization and Enlightenment.
Just an individual observation...
I agree that a "virgin birth" does not refer to the physical plane, but rather to the spiritual. I believe "immaculate" is in reference to Mary and Joseph being spiritually pure, rather than some supernatural event. Mary and Joseph are believed to have been members of the Essene Order. A "virgin birth" in the context of the Essene Order means something different than we think of it today. For them, it meant that two chosen elites had to go through extensive procedures to insure that they remained spiritually pure through the birth. Jesus was probably educated by the Essenes and later initiated into the Greater Mysteries. This would include a solo travel east ward where the initiate would spend several years in silent meditation until they reunited with their spiritual source. They would then come back and teach their inner findings to disciples. In all probability they would suffer the persecution met with all who tried to reconstruct the ethical, philosophical, or religious systems of their day.
Anything lacking in physical substance, of course. Politics, for instance, does not exist in the material realm. There is no object called "Politics," it is merely an idea. This lack of a physical manifestation does not mean it is non-existant and so it must exist in some "place" other than an actual physical location.
