If animals were valued the same as humans, they would be treated the same! When we slaughter an animal for the purpose of production, no one stops and says, ya know, this animal has a family and a whole life, just like a human does--we should let it live. If animals were valued like humans, they would not receive the treatment that we give them. And we can't value animal life the same as a human. If there was a little girl and a squirrel tied to a train track and you could only save one of them, which would you choose? Of course, the little girl. And why? Because she is a human! I agree we can't go around killing animals for fun. Some perverts kill people for fun. And why? Because they don't value human life.
Did I stereotype you? I asked you a question. I did not say, you are a vegetarian.
I will leave now.
Haha. This poll shows Christians are thoughtless people that can't even answer a simple question.
Go atheism.
Humans slaughter other humans all the time. There goes your analogy. Besides, what you're describing is a survival instinct. It is hardwired into our brains to protect the survival of the human race. Other animals so the same thing, and since you don't consider the little girl on the train tracks a threat, you would save her life.
That's not proof of life... they just found planets upon which life might be found, if it were to be found, because it has a similar atmosphere and such to the only planet we know of which life inhabits.
Like I said, point still stands. I'm certainly not refuting other life in space, but so far the only proof is mathematical. We've yet to find any.
I won't for the moment reply to your stupid bait, but this comment?
Show me that evidence, Mr. Omniscient, cos I've not seen it. Is it just you who has this evidence?
As for "illogical", that sentence is!
My reply, as ever: Before making such a post, make sure your predicates make sense. If you're going to rely on axioms, make sure they are solid and true. Don't rely on speculation or flimsy assumptions. Dont refer to false or non-existant evidence (well, you haven't refered to any). Then I shall make a serious reply. I haven't yet seen any post on this forum that is worth my time.
All this thread shows is that Seismosaur can't present a coherent proposition without going off on tangents and just being tangled up in his own hopelessly pathetic arguments. Seismosaur, please try again. But think before the next thread/attack/random string of words.
Go atheism! Indeed. It will still go on strong, thankfully there are some atheists out there who can actually present an argument well. R&S is not the battleground though.
Don't get too upset... this is just a place for talking. It's not as if these debates have any importance at all.
But I agree that the 'basically having evidence' thing makes no sense.
We (humans) are special because God created us in his own image and also he made the entire Universe for us, he didn't make the Universe and then decide to make humans just for fun or something. Without humans, I don't think the Universe has a point. Nothing in it would be able to sense it (nothing is sentient except humans I believe.)
And I can't think of a single reason why God would want to create more creatures in other parts of the Universe than just us.
What exactly makes humans so special so the universe doesn't make sense without us, what makes that much sense when humans are around. We are no more special than insects or anything else. Oh and what about the aliens that are also sentient somewhere out there, did god put them here for us, just like animals (which can also be sentient)?
You also have no proof that god made us in his own image or that a god exists, not even to yourself. All you have is a fairytale you have been brainwashed into thinking is "the truth".
oooo this seems to have turned into attacks at Christians and basically calling them stupid. No wonder they always say we are the mean ones.:(
Well if God doesn't exist and evolution is how we became like this, then there's a very good chance there is other life. But I was answering the question as a Christian, I believe in God. And if you look at it from that point of view there isn't a very good chance of other sentient life existing and the Universe would be pointless without things that have the ability to notice the Universe.Quote:

I'm talking about concious life, life that could actually feel and understand and love. If we found strange-looking unintelligent animals on other planets I would view it as anothing thing God put in the Universe for us to explore and learn from. If we found creatures that appeared to be kind of like us and believed in a God... then I might doubt.Quote:
So what would happen if they found some microscpyal life on Mars or on some moon like Europa (I believe that's the one with water under the ice, or something like that). Would that make you seriously doubt your religion, or would you continue?
It's highly likely that life evolved in other parts of the universe and by no means does this negate the existence of God.
getting back to the original question my answer is yes. I believe everything is alive. Even every plant and rock. Everything has spirit. Mother Earth is swarming with spirits and is a huge spirit herself. The Sun is spirit. All the stars are spirit. Dark matter is spirit. Also just because we think we are on the top of the heap in intelligence does not make it so. A red deer could be far more intelligent than us. Maybe he could telepathically talk to us but he chooses not to. Maybe we are so impressed by our own intelligence that he cannot break through our ego to communicate. Maybe all things are as smart as us but just cannot get through to us. Spirit bathes us and is all around us but we do not see it. That is not the first time that has ever been said. Don't you believe that the world is much more than it seems to be?
Some people aren't smart. That's not really what it means to be made in the image of God. It's as simple as being conscious, making choices, and being creative. We create in a similar fashion that our God does. For instance, we create music, literature, arts, drama, technology, etc. We are conscious creators made in the image of our conscious creator.
I read that not a single wild animal died during hurricane Katrina. They fled the lands because they sensed something bad would happen. I also saw something about a dog being able to predict when people would die. For some reason he's being kept in a hospital and he's predicted 40-some deaths.
Animals are more in tune with nature because they're not flooded with thoughts like humans. We're so caught up with the voice in our head that we don't even know what's around us. And I completely agree, this ego is what drags people into materialism. There is something more to reality that can only be revealed when we stop trying to figure every little thing out. Just stop thinking and be aware of yourself. Be completely aware. You can sense your eternal existence.
So, stop thinking and you can have the awareness of an animal?
No thanks.
Nice to see an open mind.
Yours is so open, your brain's fallen out I'm afraid.
'stop trying to figure every little thing out. Just stop thinking and be aware of yourself.'
Bullshit. If people all thought like this, you wouldn't be posting on an internet forum, living in a climate controlled house, or indeed living much of a life at all.
Haha! Wow, that's a good one! :D Gotta write that down.
Besides that, this discussions is pretty silly. If all ninja pirate can say is "have an open mind" meaning "believe my bullshit monotheistic view", than there isn't really much conversation going to happen.
I have the feeling most of the time people that say "have an open mind" don't have open minds themselves. Just because someone claims to be spiritual, or claims to believe in some very-true magical power/god, doesn't mean that person has an open mind, even IF it were true.
