Well, the older lady asked: Do you beleive in God?
      Me: No, not really
Lady, looking at my cats: Don't you think that there is something more to people than there is to these cats?
      Me: No, not really
      Lady: Are you happy?
      Me: Yea, sure!

Then they went away, looking disappointed ( but they did leave a pamphlet ) :p
Rofl, people are animals. This has been proven. The only differences are:
      1. Sentiecy
      2. Ability to build (sentiecy)
      3. Desruction of natural environment (Sentiecy)
      4. <insert other harmful things>

Yes, i'll bet you're wondering why i didn't list communities? Because animals form communities too. People are just sentient creatures starving for a reason to exist, for whatever reason. I still don't get why there HAS to be a higher power, honestly. We exist, and came to exist wthout one, lol.

We are self aware. Yes, so are monkeys. But we also have the ability to reason. We need reason and with out it, we are lost. So we create.

We create an almighty that can sustain all these answers that we can't. It sets some free.

I myself have no answer to how we became to exist. I higher power of some kind is the best answer I have heard so far.

Organized religion on the other hand is the best way to organize a heard of sheople.

I can fathom existense by accident... Oh, BTW monkeys aren't self-aware. lol, that is sentiecy. They just are... and the be... . WE are self-aware, through the course of evolution. I don't think it is far-fetched at ALL to say humans are an accident.

I think animals are self-aware. Whatever that means. There are animals that can recognize their own reflection in a mirror--apes, elephants, and something else that I forgot.

I think that they just don't consciously plan for the future; that is the difference between people and animals. Altho I recently read about an experiment that showed that maybe crows could do that.

A sentient condition or character; capacity for sensation or feeling.

I disagree. They know what "me" is. Self awareness.
Whether that be on the same level or combined with many of the other self pertaining aspects of our character, does not eliminate them from some characteristics of sentience does it?

Humans are Sentient, other animals are not. Humans can rationalize, have the cpacity to do complex thought process, solve problems...etc. Humans are animals. BUT We are sentient, other animals aren't. See?

No, I don't see. Chimps are very obviously self-aware, and have been known to primp in front of a mirror, for example. Some apes learn sign language, and can hold very coherent conversations, including expressing their desires, dislikes, etc.

I'm not saying there's no difference, but it is a spectrum, and where do you draw the line? It seems like every time they think of a line (tool use, doing math, tricking others, etc.) they find an exception. Most animals live in the moment a lot more, altho sometimes they seem worried.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, obviously people are smarter than animals (hey wasn't that the subject of a very long thread once?), I'm just saying it is a continuum, with no one obvious feature that distinguishes one from another. Maybe my abstract thinking isn't so good and that's the problem.

Not worth starting that argument again. I know what you mean.

That might not be true. I don't know, I don't have numbers to look at, but I'd be willing to bet at least a small amount that there are more Hindus in the world than christians. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

The countries where there are large numbers of atheists are very developed and free nations without religious persecution. These just happen to be christian dominated. Your statement I think was right, but it doesn't need to be applied to the world.

In response to the original post: I never try to argue anything. I know there is no god, you know that there is. Doesn't bother me.

I have found that inviting them inside to sit down for a long debate on the existence of God gets the word out that they all need to stay away from my house.
      You are dreaming right now.
