overall, pretty good stuff. There are a couple of points that i would watch out for.
The thing about most murderers and child molestors being Christian. Well, the majority of Americans and Europeans are Christians (superficial Christians, most likely), so the odds are in that favor. In any case, i would say most of the people that call themselves Christian dont think about what Jesus would do on a daily basis.
You mentioned that morals have changed. I think Christianity itself has affected the morals of even atheists. I think the morals of everyone around us rub off on us, and the majority are Christian. I have always wondered if morals are instinctive, though. Since morals do change, i would guess that they are not natural.
But, overall, good stuff. Keep on keepin on!!!
Thanks. Obviously, when a major world religion rolls around, even atheists get some morals rubbed off on em. It's only natural. :)

Isn't that just an old post of yours, I remember reading most of that word for word. Are you seriously 37!? Well I don't believe atheists don't have morals, not even saying they have worse morals, they are only a personal thing. But think about this, what is it that tells us these things are wrong? I mean how do you know, things you think are morally wrong could be right, so you think everyone is just born naturally into believing all the basic moral codes?
Sigh. Not going to explain this again. And it is an old post, put I'm posting orginals. Why wouldn't we? Morals are an idea which you can choose to use. I suppose everyone is born not thinking to murder, but they can choose not to follow them. My point is that morals can change.
Can I point out some irony? well I am anyways, your other topic says "Get a clue fundies" even though it doesn't specify theists, yet you call yourself a fundamentalist atheist. Double standards?
My biggest issue with what you have is on the one hand you point to the fact that morals are self evident and universal and on the other hand you say morals change. Well which is it? I understand that If you are from a certain place and grew up learning a certain set of beliefs, yes it seems obvious which things are wrong and which are right. That doesn't make those morals universal, however. The books are net necessarily for the people who believe those things to be self evident, but to convince those who don't.
Another thing I really have problems is with is the fact that you pair the sentences,
God is an idea.
God can't hurt you.
Do you not believe that ideas have the power to hurt or to help? Do you not believe that a collective societal idea can hold significant power over an individual?
Also, I'd just like to point out that I may be wrong, but after having read the bible (which includes the bulk of jewish texts as well) and most of the Koran, I never caught any part of any of them that said that Christians hate Muslims or Muslims hate jews.
If you'd read any of the research done with feral children then you wouldn't be able to make a statement like that. Through observation we have learned that people are probably not born ingrained with innate social codes. The structure of the society you are born in to dictates a good portion of what you see as reality during your early developmental stage.Quote:

As for the hate factor, it is the same as the followers hurting you thing. A hate for other religions in the Bible are not 'there', but it seems many assume that you must 'convert the infidel' or something.
In your second quote- That is exactly what I mean. If you were thrown into the wilderness at an early age and to survive you had to kill and steal, then yes, they would be your morals. But if you were born into a rich and shelterd family, your morals would be whatever you think is 'right'.
