Thread: Well That Didn't Work Out

Yea, I deleted the "Try to Prove Anything Wrong About Christianity" topic because it was too hectic and I didn't even want to think about trying to answer all nine pages of those questions. I didn't have the time.

So what is the point of this topic, you ask? Same thing as last time. But there are some regulations:

Rule 1: Each person is entitled to TWO (2) questions per post. Any more than the limit and I won't answer any.
Rule 2: Double posts (which are different) will not be answered.
Rule 3: Asking more questions before I answer the first set will result in me answering none of them.
Rule 4: If more than four people post before I reply, I'm not answering it. Period. You overburden me, I'll delete this topic and make another.
Rule 5: Say anything that is meant to insult or shame any religion in any way, and I'll take proper action.

So, I do feel guilty and shameful for setting these guidelines, but I'd like to answer some questions around here! But there were just too many earlier.

One last thing: Some people seem to revel in the fact of victory. Do they have no pity for the defeated?

How about going back to the other thread and just answering the first two questions each person asked? You don't have to do it all at once. Answer a few on one day and another few on another day, etc. People put a lot of time and effort into their questions, and you let a great deal of time go by before you even said you would answer later, and then you just abandoned your thread. I think you should respond to those questions. How about that? (That's my first question.)

My second question: What does it mean for God to be "omnipotent"? In other words, does it mean he can do absolutely anything, or just anything within the laws of reality he cannot control and is part of (which would mean that he is not unlimited), or something else?

I have never felt sorry for people for not winning what they signed up to play, especially when their defeat came after they bragged and boasted. I feel sorry for innocent people who get hurt, but not people who sign up for competition and lose. But more importantly in regard to this forum, although I love to debate, I am in all honesty trying very hard to understand the core of the Christian concept as well as I possibly can. I don't mean I am trying to memorize the New Testament and the entire history of Christianity. I just mean I am trying to get to the bottom of the basic concepts as much as I can because, as it stands, they just don't make sense to me.

But anyway. I'm not sure what you want us to try and disprove here. Basic things the bible got wrong (bad history/science)? Larger things like the resurrection/omnipotence etc?

It really doesn't bother me that you deleted the thread, I like to ask questions, and some of the ones in that thread already had answers from other christians.

I got a question about free-will

Ok so god is all good and all loving right, humans have the free-will to murder I understand that but why do people have to suffer when getting murdered, I could name large amounts of torture cases, but none involving no suffering, if god is outside of time, and everywhere and all good why not stop the suffering of humans, secound to that how is suffering free will?

I still believe that this type of arguing is wrong... but, since he doesn't seem to be here to answer your questions, I will step in to provide some answers... I'll try to remain neutral and just tell ya what I know.

first off, omnipotent is a transparent word... He controls everything and he can do everything... reality as we know it is his creation.

This is were the paradox comes in, "Could an omnipotent being create a stone so heavy that even that being could not lift it?" If so, then it seems that the being could cease to be omnipotent; if not, it seems that the being was not omnipotent to begin with."

But, god can make a stone that he can't lift... all he has to do is not want to lift it, in the first place. Once he wants to lift it, the stone would be lifted.

We're at four people, and I think this guy is just playing some silly juvenile game. I don't think he has any intention of answering anybody's questions. He is counting on there being a fifth responder when he has not responded. That will be his excuse to back out, which he is probably going to do one way or the other. We'll have to wait until his parents go night night so he can sneak out of his room and get on the computer before we know what his next childishness is going to be. Awwwww, how cute.

It's not exactly very, you know, nice to delete topics that people have posted in regardless of whether they are "yours" or not. At least not without any other reason than you don't like what's happening.

You're not the only one spending their time making posts in those topics, you know.

I suppose that would have been a good idea, but sadly I deleted the topic. So that's impossible.

Regarding your second question: Genesis says that In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Some people say that after God came into existstence, that was the beginning, and then the universe was made. But it is clearly stated that God has always been, always is, and always will be. The laws of reality are against something existing forever in the past and forever into the future. God never "began" or will "end". He's free of all constraints, he is omnipotent. He knows all, sees all, can do all. No limits.

I believe that the amount of love God gives us by letting us have free will, having choices, and having the seperate will to love him back is FAR greater than if he gave us no free will but then we couldn't hurt others. So pacifist zombies or free-willed human? At least you have the choice to do bad or good as a human.


Regarding almost everyone else, it's an issue of time, not of attention. Stop trying to make excuses to prove that what i'm doing is "just for kicks".

Yeah but why not dystroy the desire to commit murder, if you say that would be destorying our free-will your wrong, in less you think our desires are free will in which case I'm sure you would agree that it is not, since if I got to choose my desires I would make them so easy to furfill that they would be literaly a peacie of pie in my hands.

To all atheists who keep complaining about the deletion of the other thread, get over it, most of the questions there were answered by bwick, it really isn't that hard to make people doubt christianity is it?
