Oh my god bands are brainwashing children

Yeah, in this topic I would like to discuss the fact that some christian people think certain rock bands are working for satan or something.

I mean I saw this dude on TV, the show was made in 2004 or something... and he said he thought KISS ment 'Kids in service of satan'. Personally, I find this really funny becouse KISS is just a soft rock band with some silly costumes, and lyrics about love and naughty stuff. I mean some death metal really say: KILL YOU PARENTS. GOD IS A LIE. SATAN ROCKS. And stuff.

Why do some christians really think every band with some loud guitars are send by satan? I mean it's totally bullshit. Why wouldn't satan just 'control' some political leader. Lets say bush (;) ) I mean that would be way more effective then letting some dudes make funny music while acting like retards on stage.

I mean I listen to Iron maiden, and they often sing about silly stuff like Satan this, satan that. but that just makes it funny. I mean it's hilarious, I do think iron maiden is totally joking about singing about that. Becouse it just sounds cool. Like how other bands are cool not becouse they are good in music, but becouse they make you think: lol. Like system of a down. With their songs about Pizzapie, and pogopogopogo (up-pogo-down-pogo *1000 wpm*.)

You get the point.

Do any christians here think there are any bands send by satan? I mean I think it's just something rednecks think.

Like people that think simple plan is 'badass music'.

As i understand it (could very well be wrong) KISS means "Knights in Satan's Service". However, it's obviously a joke.

I think that most bands with satanic content only do it for the sake of tradition or imagery. Being a fan of black and death metal, it's not uncommon for me to find extremely blasphemous lyrics, especially with black metal. Like i said though, not all bands take this seriously at all. Metal is synonymous with dark imagery; things like satan and gore, but this doesn't mean it's a serious reflection of the bands' beliefs.

I mean of course there are bound to be bands that take it on some kind of serious level, that goes without saying. There are many figures in the history of black metal, for example, who would be considered evil and satan-worshippers because of their actions. And while their actions may not have necessarily been in the name of satan, they are certainly damnable actions in the eyes of christianity.

But it's really important for people to realise that labelling an entire genre of music as evil because of a minorty group's actions or because of lyrical themes is silly and very ignorant.

I myself enjoy listening to music regardless of what goes on behind the scenes. I do listen to black metal and death metal and enjoy much of it. That's not to say i endorse some of the extreme actions, or image, or behaviour of some of the people behind the music. I listen to it simply because it's music i can relate to and enjoy.

I'm willing to admit there are "evil" bands out there, but anybody who thinks heavy metal is automatically evil needs serious help. I'd be much more worried about the mainstream Rap and RnB stuff that gets played nowadays.

Christianity has a very interesting history regarding the misdirection of moral accusations. It started with Paul, who was up to his ass in accusations from the True Apostles. Paul's defense was to instigate a good offense. he indoctrinated his congregations to suspect evil in everything, particularly those who would claim to be good and righteous. It has fairly institutionalized a sense of paranoia into Paulist Christianity.

Ah, so basicly, everyone agrees with that it's bullshit. I am glad to hear that : )

I read an interview with KISS, and in it they adressed this issue. No, it doesn't mean this. It simply means KISS. It's just a name. I think it's always so ignorant when people say that. No offense to you or anything. They have a song called, "God Gave Rock n' Roll to You'. What band with a song like that would be an acronym for that? They are my favorite band, though.

I totally agree. It's like when some people started to say that AC/DC really meant Anti-Christ/Devil Children. They try to make something up. Why don't they try this with real Satanist like Gorgoroth, Slayer, or Dark Funeral, they'll probably get their houses burnt to the ground if they do. By the way im not a Satanist, just my opinion. Oh and by the way Tenasious D aren't Satanists.

This is how I see things. I listen primarily to Christian music, classical, and some techno/trance when I can get my hands on it, but there are a lot of other songs that I enjoy, especially oldies. The reason I don't listen to most non-Christian music is because the songs depress me. There are only so many times I can listen to some guy or girl complain that their significant other left them or how their mom or dad was killed and they want revenge, or how they want to get it on with someone/everyone.

As a generally emotional person, I find that if I have to listen to this music for an length of time, my mood changes and I am more apt to become angry or depressed. Now, there's nothing wrong with songs that profess their love to somebody, but in accordance with my morals, I don't enjoy listening to most non-Christian singers.

And country music... we just won't go there :P

Christian music is really, really depressing for me to hear. It's fucking one sides brainwashing. Allways about how much they love jesus.

It's like the same at popmusic these days with one difference. Instead of everything being about sex and getting it, christian music is about jesus and getting it. (heaven &stuff).

And wtf non christian? Music shouldn't be made with relgion in mind. that's bullcrap.

I could understand that. A lot of it is a bit depressing...I guess it depends on what you like. :D

I choose to believe that the 'Devil' does not exist.

I'd like to mention that not all Christian songs are about God/Jesus. Some are about love in general and many of them are very touching! Some are about people they're lost. Some artists have written some great instrumental pieces (ie. Michael W. Smith). Some have loud, metal music in minor keys that talk about life (ie. Kutless). Some produce deep-bass rap music that you occasionally have to strain yourself to follow (ie. John Ruben) And some just do some wacky, fun songs that you can just smile with (ie. Relient K). There have even been some Christian boy-bands for people who could be interested in that style.

Any kind of music you like, there's a Christian group that can do it.... except Country music. We're a little lacking in that department but personally, I could care less. :P

But again, it's just my personal preference based on how I feel after listening to music for any length of time, be it Christian or secular.
