This is the part that I don't agree with. What kind of forces? Who directs them? How do they read your mind? How do they interfere with everyday life in order for you to reach your goal? Why should they listen to your wish for a higher-paying job and not the wishes of an african child in need of water or a child in a conflict zone who wishes the fighting would only stop?[/b]
Hey man, I didn't make the law, that's just how I understand it works. Shit, if I could answer those questions I wouldn't be sittin here workin' a 9 to 5.

Coincidence happens every day, and a lot more often than people think, an example being thinking of someone and then having them ring.[/b]
Ah, you're tapping into something different here. There are those who believe these "coincidences" are the same forces I'm talking about. Even more would probably say it's a psychic link thing.

I think it has a lot to do with personal beliefs - there are those who say:
      "God brought this my way"
      others, "Geez, what luck!"
and others, "Yes, I've willed this good fortune through positive thought!"

      Thumbs up Great Thread!

Thanks, SmileyGuy, for starting this thread.

I read "Excuse me, your life is waiting" a couple of years ago, and saw the movie, "The Secret" last year. I've been on a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong journey with this information and so much more - and it's been quite a roller-coaster ride!

I've had similar reservations as the ones posted here - and SO many more!

And I have to say that since around February/March this year, it all came together for me.

This is my conclusion about the Law of Attraction, after everything I've researched and experienced:

Everything in our physical world is energy - vibrating at various rates and frequencies. The rate at which you are vibrating will determine what you bring into your life. The way you feel is your indication of the rate at which you are currently vibrating. It's very simplistic to say "If you are feeling wealthy, you'll attract wealth. If you're feeling healthy, you will be healthy." - because there are so many varients of course. - But it's a start!

One of the many, many varients is: we all have patterns programmed into us - into our very cells, that may sabotage our efforts to attract what we want. For example, through experiences, influences or conditioning, a person may have a subconscious belief that the only way to get affection from a loved one, is to be in crisis. He may be completely unaware of this belief. But the belief may be so ingrained, it is programmed into every cell of this person. This means that no matter how much this person may WANT to have a crisis-free life, and no matter how much he focuses on a crisis-free life, he will be Automatically creating situations that put him in crisis.

This is something that wasn't covered in The Secret or EMYLIW - because they were just an introduction to the Law of Attraction.

There are various ways to clear these beliefs - many many methods, but the most important one is to Recognise that that is what is happening. If you Recognise that there may be limitting beliefs - ones that you may not even be consciously aware of - and that these may take some time to clear, then you will not be quite so devistated when your attempts to manifest what you want, don't happen for a while - or happen sporadically.

Over time, as you develop the new habits of thought and feeling, the information programmed into you will begin to change. And THEN you'll see the results. This is why people have such varying results, and some have none at all.

The basis of it all is how you're feeeeeling. The way you're feeling tells you the nature of what you're attracting/creating at the time. But there will most likely be a delay before you see the result - while the rest of you gets its ducks in a row

      Roller:
Ah sorry but I really don't think there is any such thing as the "law of attraction." It's just a simple case of confirmation bias, or gambler's fallacy.
      Heh heh

I have a Fabulous Interview for you to listen to if you'd like to, Roller. If you're interested in hearing some of the details of the scientific experiments that have been conducted on the subject, this is a really brilliant interview. The links are below - the interview is in 11 parts, each about 10 minutes long.

Having said this, I believe that whatever a person believes, is true for them, so I have no desire to convince anyone of anything - this is only if you're interested

      Tornado Joe:
Don't expect someone to just show up at your doorstep with a check and tickets to the Bahamas for no reason.
Tornado Joe, I have to tell you about just such an occasion - not as exreme as tickets to the Bahamas, but ......

Around the begining of this year I decided I wanted to train in Karate again, and searched for a club in my area. The only one I could find was a large one that charged a fortune (about £200 per month for my 11 year old son and myself) - and you had to pay 6 months in advance.
The club is about 10 minutes drive from my house. Since it was so expensive, I decided to "file" the idea for the moment.

I decided that I would find a club that was more reasonable at some point in the future, but it wasn't a priority right then. So, although I was aware of it, and it was in the back of my mind, I didn't actively do anything to seek one out.

In May, just a few days before we were due to leave for a holiday to Vegas, one Thursday afternoon, there was a knock on my door (honestly!) and there was a guy from a National Karate club, finding out if local residents would be interested in joining local classes!!! There were a few of them going door-to-door. I've Never heard of such a thing before

Well, he came in and told us about the club and the prices etc. It cost us £60 for lifetime membership and license for three of us, and £3.60 each per class - pay as we go! It's within walking distance of our house. And it's one of the biggest Karate Clubs in the UK. We're absolutely loving it!!

How's that for place your order, then sit back and wait for them to knock on your door

      xx

I liked the way Illusions explained the LOA. If anyone reading this thread is interested in further reading on this concept I highly reccomend the Seth books by Jane Roberts. Seth Speaks, or The Nature of the Psyche are both good Seth primers. The cornerstone of his teachings is "You get what you concentrate on, there is no other law." He comes back to this again and again but he also touches upon a huge range of subjects dealing with conciousness, with lots about dreaming.

The thing that I am delving into right now is the exploration of the contents of my own mind. I sounds simple enough - aren't we always aware of our own thoughts? I've found that the answer is yes and no - a very BIG no. Our thoughts ride on a host of unexamined assumptions - like the person who equates crisis with attention - that shape the course of our thoughts like the banks of a river shape the water flowing between them. They are there in plain sight if you bother to look for them, but we usually just don't. It's been a real eye-opener taking an in depth mental inventory.

What prompted me to do this was finally getting fed up with the habitual flow of my thoughts/feelings. I just got sick and tired of being in my own head and wanted to find a way to escape from my own routines. It's been fascinating to mentally step back and catch myself in flagrante as I habitually react to the triggers I've set up for myself.

      Some examples;
petty annoyances with other peoples driving
mentally berating every overweight person I see
disgust with ubiquity of fast food joints
      attitude about SUVs
      etc., etc.

These are just a few of the most obvious and superficial ones, but you get the idea. As you can imagine, every time I step outside my door I'm confronted with all these things, all the time. The LOA sees to it that I have plenty of things to prick my annoyance wherever I go.

By being vigilant and bringing these crappy habits of thought to center stage every time they replay I have stopped reacting to them, and as a consequence, being out in the world is a lot more pleasant and I have much greater authority over my own attention.

It's thrilling to get inside and resculpt my psychic landscape. Indoctrinating myself with the idea that you get what you concentrate on has been key to revolutionizing my own awareness.

Couldn't this just lead to schizophrenia sometime down the road.
An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

Just to try and bring more seriousness to this place again (come on, just look at the posts above... What are you guys, toddlers?), I've decided to post here.

Now, I don't have the time nor the desire to go through all these pages, so I don't know whether this has been said before, but I have my own little 'theory' about this "law of attraction". Forgive me if it has already been said before, I swear: I haven't ripped you off... It's just that this theory is so very simple that everyone could've thought of this.

So, let's get it started in here, a'ight?

When you want something, I mean when you REALLY REALLY want something, or when you're thinking about it more than normal, you'll remember you want it.

Now if you remember you want something, AND if you want said thing REALLY REALLY bad, you'll DO MORE to get it than at other times.

Example: if I want to earn much money, and I mean if I REALLY REALLY want money... I'll jump at any chance that has the potential to earn me money. Therefore, there is a higher chance that I'll get rich.
      Therefore: SUCCESS!!!

Another example, one we're all probably familliar with, at least more than with the money one:
Say I'm in love with this girl (or guy, whatever floats your boat), and I want her REALLY REALLY bad (which is the case, isn't it... that's the whole point of 'being in love'), then I'll jump at any opportunity to get her to notice me, (or not, but then I'd be discussing Freud... Who is interesting too, but not for now (just PM me/mail me/msn me, a'ight?)). As such, I'll end up being nice to her, helping her, talking to her (more than anyone), and simply being with her.
This way, I'll (probably) get her to notice and/or like me, and if not, I'll just change my methods to suit her liking.
In the end, she has more potential of falling in love with me, than any other person in the room.
      Therefore: SUCCESS!!!

If you want something really bad, it's more than obvious that you'll try to accomplish this. And I assume it gets more likely that you'll actually end up with said goal when you try.

The same with positive thinking and (sometimes) arrogantly/egoistically thinking: when you think negative ('Ahhh, it's never going to work'), then it won't simply because you're too pessimistic just to MAKE IT WANT TO WORK, and when you think egoistically, it's just obvious YOU are gonna get more fortune than the person next to you...

Man, I should go write my own books...

Oh! And by the way, just something that bothered me:

If anyone has read the synopsis of the booklet 'the secret' and has also found out that Plato and even Socrates, the great Greek philosophers, supposedly practised this "as evidence from ancient texts pointed out", then I have a little fact for you to consider: Both Plato as well as Socrates did not practise 'the secret'. They themselves had written down that most (if not all) of their good ideas were 'channeled' through them by a "δαίμων" (Daimoon, also known as Daemon or Demon in modern times), this was supposed to be a creature of supernatural origin, which were the messengers between the mortals and the gods. You might look at them as though they were muses (just to illustrate: Eros, or the roman Cupido (Cupid), the bringer of love, was concidered to be a Daimon). Later, however, most profoundly in the Christian religion, these spirits of (originally) benevolence developed into the modern day "Demons", or evil spirits.

Yes... Lots of things bother me... Especially people who USE old philosophers to their own ends, by presenting their theories in the wrong way (have I mentioned this guy and his book 'the power of Now'? That guy uses Descartes' 'cogito ergo sum' VERY WRONG, indeed)

But that's a sidetrack... And a rather long one too...
I could've just described Freud's theory here too, no?

Oh well... There's always a next time (or PM, if you're really impatient... or of course the 'law of attraction' )

But anyway: Byebye, guys! Cheers and well wishes from the Netherlands!!!

      ~CD

I should make my own rant-topic...
      hmmmmm...
