OK, I guess that answers my question a little, I kind of wanted to know if you thought of them as just a smart DC or something more. :P My DG and other persistent characters all pretty much...

You have a couple options if you want to make a dream guide. One: you can design it when you're awake. This would mean planing / designing every aspect of your dream guide before you try to...

I've been facing similar obstacles—and if I'm honest with myself it pertains as much to waking life as to dreaming. I love your description of how lucid dreams used to feel like "christmas morning...

This is a bit off-topic but I used to have insomnia quite often especially from trying to LD and I think the main reason is feeling tension, physical or mental (usually linked together). It's also...

Surely these are valid variants. "Induced" means "bring about or give rise to" and "initiated" means "cause (a process or action) to begin." I'm just using Google's definitions since I'm not at home...

Yes, I mean not dropping the practice entirely. The same can be said for any practice. If you want to be a skilled lucid dreamer, but only practice when free time appears, you will never be very...

I would try the SSILD technique, it's very similar and can lead into a WILD, even though it's technically for DILD. It helps a lot with distracting your mind. I was having almost the same problem,...

This is a fragment of a dream last night which felt like it lasted only a few minutes but it's worth noting down I think.
I was with a friend (I'll refer to him as Jace) and we had a job assigned to us. For that reason, we were standing at a body of water and went in and swam down to the bottom (wasn't that deep, maybe 4-5 meters or so). At the bottom, Jace had to hold what I think were torches and I had to light them by using matches. While doing this, it occurred to me that fire is a weird thing underwater. I then remarked this to Jace, exclaiming it's really weird to have fire when submerged in water. Jace answered this along the lines of "Yeah, I guess that's kinda unusual, huh?". I still thought it was incredibly weird but I went on anyway, not really questioning what was going on and woke up soon after.
Damn dream characters never seem to lend a hand every now and then to get lucid. Oh well.
I was in my new apartment and my best friend (I'll refer to him as Steve) was there too. I don't know what we were doing there but I noticed that in the corner of the room there were multiple guitar amps. Since I play the electric guitar, I wasn't surprised at first, until I realised Steve's amp was there too. At first I was really happy because the amp I brought to my new apartment broke down and I could therefore borrow Steve's amp. However, I then realised another amp which I recognised as the large amp I own which should've been at my parents' place, not at my new apartment. I then realised instantly I was in a dream, but I then started explaining to Steve why this situation was bullshit. I explained that my amp isn't really here in waking life and that the dream messed up by placing it there and I showed Steve that I could confirm the dreamstate by counting my fingers. I counted five at first, but looking away and back to my hand I noticed that my middle-finger was now only half-sized, looking away and back I had four fingers and repeating this once more I had three fingers. I then exclaimed that I confirmed the dreamstate and I then went out to do stuff [CENSORED]. Don't judge me
Anyway the lucid part of the dream felt really long. I know the dream lasted about an hour and the majority was spent lucid (as far as I can tell). I seemed to kinda doubt my ability to control the dream however, as some things I also tried to do didn't really work and I felt like I wasn't powerful enough.
I was in some sort of real life game where you had to shoot people, but they wouldn't die but rather get knocked out of the game. Sort of like a harmless real gun paintball. The first game I took a sniper rifle and did pretty well. The second game I also had a sniper rifle but at one point I was the only one left where I was standing and I could see 10+ people in three different locations, aiming at me. I shot a whole lot of those people down but I never got hit myself, nor recalled any of them firing at me for real. At one point I picked up another type of sniper rifle but the gun was really weird and flexible and someone was about to explain how to fire it but I just dropped it and went on my way.
I was using a paintbrush with black paint to write something on a wall. Instead of my usual handwriting however, I actually wrote in a really neat and fancy style. When I noticed this I was quite surprised as one might expect, and my mother appeared and seemed impressed and asked me how I did it, to which I answered that I honestly had no idea. I wrote two sentences, of which the first had turned into some kind of cubic wood carving and the second sentence stayed in the wall the way I wrote it. They both dissapeared and I tried to do it again but only succeeded in creating the first sentence, which turned into a wood carving again. I decided I'd give that carving to my mother as a gift but when I took it from the wall it melted completely within a second. I tried to create another but didn't succeed before the dream ended.
I was busy helping out with something when suddenly I knew i was dreaming. Interestingly, I confirmed it when a dream character told me I was dreaming as well. I abandoned what I was doing and did crazy stuff like bungee jump plunge from the atmosphere layer into the earth, have a light saber fight with Obi Wan Kenobi (I'm not even that much a Star Wars fan though), and increase my own size to a giant, walking around on the earth like I don't give a damn. After all that I turned back and lost lucidity and had a talk with my cousin but I can't quite remember what we talked about.
