I've been lurking a bit more lately, but plan to start posting some of my dream experiences...
I've had only a few dreams where the effects/sensations have "carried over" into the waking realm. Uusually these deal with painful/freaky/violent dream situations. I think someone has touched on this idea in another thread, but I just wanted to tell of one I had this morning...
For a while, I dreamt at low-level lucidity -until I reached the top of the hill. I trudged, then crawled when it became too steep -up a long, paved street in some unknown suburban-looking area. The street became increasingly steep as I neared the top. I became very nervous, conscious of the extreme height, and I began to wonder at the way the street was warped and so unnaturally steep. I stood at the top of the street and it was like standing at the top of a huge paved ramp. I thought "this can't be a real street. they don't build them like this." Then I became completely lucid and decided to show some "bystanders" standing on the sidewalk that I knew how to fly -thus proving to them (and to myself) that it was indeed a dream. I jumped from the top of the street, ascending into the air. As soon as I did so, the air for a long distance in front of me seemed instantly to become draped with what looked like power lines that were placed strategically in my path ("to keep me from flying very far?," I thought.). I maneuvered adeptly, however, able to avoid the menacing power lines -much to the amzement of the onlookers. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed three superhumanly huge looking men each dressed in a black uniforms, all of them proportionally larger than the other onlookers. They appeared to be moving in on me as if seeking to trap me and attempt to pull me down from the air. They were able to jump extremely high and maneuver around the wires, but I somehow escaped their grasp each time they came close... One of the men leapt up beneath me and grabbed my left arm, but I quickly twisted away --and simultaneously wrenched myself into (another stage of sleep?) -I was almost awake now, but not completely. In this sleep stage, everything is black, but it felt like I was floating in a warm liquid -like a limbo of sorts. I could feel myself sinking back into the same dream, and found myself right where I left off. I continued to fly about, avoiding these web-like power lines that drain my energy whenever I come in contact with them. The three "men" suddenly see me -as if I had appeared in their realm or had been teleported there. They were noticably frantic and angry. These "super-men" were insanely intent on dragging me back to the earth -as if they hated the fact that I was able to fly and they were not. They were getting closer and closer to me and the wires were becoming increasingly dense and difficult to avoid. I was quickly becoming exhausted (yet I felt somehow exhilerated at the same time because of the vividness and the wonder of the level oflucidity) Finally, two of the men were able to corner me among a webbing of the black power lines. There was no sunlight, but the lighting appeared grey -as if the day were overcast with clouds above some suburb. One of the men grabbed both my legs with one hand and the other grabbed me from behind, holding my arm behind my back. Their hands were huge. Instantly, I tried the "limbo" technique again and I was able to escape their grasp -for a short while. I swam through this warm dark "liquid in limbo," trying to get as far from the point where the men had grabbed me. I could see that there were points of light where these men trudged through the tar-like substance, trying to find me, but they were unable to sense me completely. I became frightened when I realized the men were able to follow me to this place of limbo... A point of light came close and stopped near me -like a dog sniffing for its prey... I pulled myself awake, but as I lay in bed breathing deeply and trying to assess the dream, its meaning and my transition to reality, I felt hands grabbing and probing just below the surface of my mattress. This scared me even more, so I shook my head, sat up in bed, and tried to rid my mind completely of any "sleepwebs." Still I could feel hands -It was as if the three men were trying to somehow reach through the veil of dreaming to pull me back into limboland through my mattress. I jumped out of bed and stared down at the mattress... (At this point I was 100% awake) I looked down at my sheets and small green and gold sparks and splotches of light showed on the sheet that covers my mattress. I ran my hand over it to make sure it wasn't just static, or my eyes playing tricks on me. The splotches of green and gold light continued but seemed to be quickly diminishing... I turned on the bedroom light and they vanished completely.
Instead of going right back to sleep (for fear of falling back into the same dream), I got a drink of water and listened to music for a few minutes, then I went back to sleep... It was about 5:30 AM.
