Musical Composing in LD's?

I'm an amateur musician, and one of the reasons why I want to learn to become lucid is because it seams like I might be able to come up with more creative pieces while I'm lucid. This is because I have had two regular dreams in the past where I have seen a band playing a song, except they are playing a song that has never been written. And they were actually very good pieces of music that I could have easily made into legit songs. Paul McCartney's "Yesterday" came to him in a dream btw. Just wondering if anyone has tried composing music in a lucid or if you think it can be done.

I'm pretty sure it can be done. I don't know how well you'd be able to actually write the music, seeing as it's pretty hard to read and write in dreams, but I think you could come up with a song and make it play in your LD, then write out the music when you wake up.

I have had a few musical experiences in dreams. After reading someones comment here about "play guitar like a god", i had that dream last night. I kept trying to play Metallica's Enter Sandman, (i used to play guitar when i was younger) but the tunes coming out were way cooler and original. My recall is still not good and yeah that will be the hard part. The other one that springs to mind was waking up in a panic hearing really violent death metal. Not cool. Try putting on some low volume ambient, like Pink Floyd or Enigma as you go to sleep, might get the Audio part of your brain working. Personally i am more interested in visual art, any idea's on how to trigger / create visuals in dreams?? FunK

Was at a concert (in the dream) and the on-stage band was playing some sort of acoustic song. Then there was a growl, some monster things came over the hill behind me, and the band immediately switched to blastbeats. I laughed my head off after I woke up. Was kinda cool

Sure, go for it. I've never done it myself, though that's because I'm not a composer, and it would take me a while to get anything besides the basic melody.. If you achieve this, you should post a recording of the music you've created here, it would be interesting to check out.

omg! There's a member on DV who did this. They composed a song with lyrics during a LD, recorded it, emailed it to me and it made me bawl my eyes out! It's amazing. I've texted them about this thread!

i call b/s on that one. I believe you could have a dream where you wrote a song or part of it, but theres no recording and emailing from a dream to real life. The real task would be trying to remember the entire piece after you've woken up.

Ha ha! Thanks for clearing that up, Mini Man56. Guess my post was a bit ambiguous lol. Sorry, Hercuflea I'm not sure what thread you mean. My post is referring to a personal friend of mine who is a member on here and who sent me the song file recently. Unfortunately they're probably going to be too shy to post in here but I just wanted the OP to know that yes you can compose music in a lucid dream. I would have been very skeptical but my friend has done it and the song is simply beautiful. I found the song particularly moving knowing that it had been composed during a LD because I am so passionate about LD myself.

FAIL. xD The recording and e-mailing was done AFTER the dream took place, in real life. i think the only fail was to use the word "fail" to act like the original statement made complete sense. "Thanks for clarifying". -exactly. I've tried a few times to ask my brain while i was asleep the "best riff that i could write" and have only came out with bits and pieces so it could definitely be done.

Clegg, like everyone else has stated, it is truly possible to compose music in your dreams. I've never actually created music while lucid. During normal dreams, however; I heard magnificent music that I've never heard before, and awakened with the tunes stuck in my head on several occasions. I'll admit that I'm not very musically inclined, and I've never taken the initiative to capitalize on any of these occurances. I'm sure someone like yourself would have no problem accomplishing the feat though. Good luck.

I guess you could, if you know what all the notes and chords sound like. What I do each day is play all the chords from C to B flat on an electronic keyboard, and play the note in which the chord is named. So if it is an A chord, I play the A note. Then I go onto A sharp/B flat, then B, and so on and so forth. If you can recognize them in your head, I'm sure you could do it in your dream. It can be done.

The best thing is, you don't have to. there's no way in hell I'll be able to remember something from a friggin' dream, lucid or not. Repeat to yourself "I will recall this melody when I wake up" and wake yourself up (in the "teleported to bed" fashion). I managed to remember about four measures with this method p;

Here's an example of what I meant. Imagine a piano. On that piano, you have several keys. You would need to ASSIGN the proper note and tone to the keys you're going to press somehow. If you were playing Chopsticks in the key of 'E' ( Four sharps :O ), you wouldn't be pressing the 'G' and 'F' keys repeatedly like you would if you were playing it in the key of G. Am I making sense here?? :S

ill tell u what it defenitly works... i had a dream i was doing jui jistu which i do in real life and i used different techniques in my dream it wasnt a lucid dream but very vivid and the moves in my dream made me improve in real llife

It's a magic piano. Just press the keys, and it plays the melody you want it to. :s
